most pest resistant veggies for a balcony

last modified: 9 years ago

I have a small garden on my balcony in Pittsburgh. This year my lettuce, basil, and pepper plants have been pretty affected by aphids. My kale has had cabbage loopers and my tomato had fungus gnats. I think the cabbage loopers and the gnats are under reasonable control but the aphids are running rampant. My basil and dill are going to seed and it's about to get too hot for lettuce. I was going to pull those plants and replace with something else but I wasn't sure what yet. I'm feeling pretty sick of fighting bugs and am wondering if you all have any suggestions for a veggie that would grow in a pot and would not attract aphids (most importantly) or other pests. Does such a thing exist?
