Name That Rose!

Old time rose in neighbors garden

My 85 YO neighbor has this wonderful old timer that was her mother's. Has a wonderful aroma, and requires no maintenance. Looks like it could use some pruning tho.

Probably from the early 1900's. Who knows?

Definitely a rugosa. Could it be Roseraie de l'Hay?

Either 'Roseriae de l'Hay' or 'Hansa'.

Thank you for the id's. The neighbor said that she took two plants from the old homestead maybe 40 years ago and they are still blooming today. They were her mother's roses and were always there when she grew up in the 1930s on the old farm.

She does nothing to care for them, probably not even to fertilize. Temps have gotten to -50f in the past and yet they still survive.

Who needs fussy flowers when these do so well just left alone.

When I moved to Oregon twenty years ago, I brought with me a piece of the 'Hansa' my grandmother planted at our cottage in 1973, and it is here in my garden still, performing beautifully.
