It looks like a Boxelder but I don't see the red stripe they usually have. They are more prominent at the end of summer, but he could have gotten in your house last summer and is a hanger-on. They're harmless, but annoying.

Looks like a weevil to me. Weevils feed off of grain and seeds. We got a major infestation by leaving bird seed on the back porch. When we got rid of the bird seed, they were gone within a week.

I agree: weevil or related beetle. I can't tell how large it is (most are pretty good sized) but that snout is unmistakable. Large ones feed off developing fruits and stuff but a few of the little ones get into seeds and grains. So if it's a big one, it's wandering in. If it's tiny, you might have a problem and you're growing them somewhere... :)

Thanks for the comments. It's teeny and there have been maybe a dozen of them in various places (in and near the bathroom). I have been reading about diatomaceous earth and am thinking of getting some to put in the bathroom along the floorboards. Any thoughts?

It's pretty harmless stuff so go right ahead.
