Need suggestions for regrowing lettuce

I need suggestions for regrowing lettuce. As of yesterday, I had about 20 heads of butterhead lettuce growing in my garden. Because of the temperatures over 100 degrees in the Bay Area, I covered them with a tarp. At some point during the afternoon, the tarp fell directly on top of the lettuce heads. This basically cooked the lettuce. I'm wondering if I cut the lettuce back if it will regrow, or if starting new seedlings is a better idea. Any suggestions?
