That is a cool light! I don't think it will look like a birdcage at all. Also, that table is gorgeous!

Not being able to view the dining room nor the kitchen where you want pendants makes it difficult. What does the area for the pendants look like: cabinet wood tone, floors, counters.......

Do love the chandelier... dimensions coupled with the table size are important as is lighting. This has a single bulb will that be enough light?

Love the light, but I'm not sure any dining area larger than a small round table in a breakfast nook can really be served by a single bulb. Or at least, it's going to need to be a 100W equivalent to be bright enough, which might be blinding in an exposed bulb.

This is not a good light fixture for indoors. The one bulb is going to provide glaring light and if you lamp it with an Edison Bulb, there won't be enough light for over the table.

I think these cage lights are past their prime and are beginning to look a bit dated.

Here is a glimpse of one wall of cabinets. The opposite wall has the same cabinets, just different set up with sink and such. There is a Long Island in between the two. Above this is where the 2 kitchen pendants will go. You can also see the dark hardwood floors in this photo.

The dining table will be very close in proximity to the kitchen - open concept.

I'm planning on white quartz with a little gray for counters, and painting the cabinets white or very light grey. I might even paint the island a greyish blue.

The kitchen and dining have tons of canned lights so the one light above dining might be OK, not sure yet.

@BeverlyFLADeziner thank you for the input! Do you have any suggestions for something that is unique, but might have a comfortable vintage vibe? Most of the others I've found were way more than I'd like to spend right now.

Kelsey, the light you posted isn't a vintage look... are you thinking of something totally different now? I think it leans slightly industrial.

@porteredun To tell you the truth, I am all over the place (as shown on my board below) and can't decide on the style I like best - that also fits with the kitchen. We did not choose the cabinets or color of floor, so I didn't start with a vision. We found the house mostly finished.

This will be the first thing we choose, so that's why it's been sooo hard. I've also attached a photo of a quick photoshop idea board of our bathroom. Maybe this will give you a better idea of the style I lean towards.

It's such a beautiful kitchen... I'm seeing more like this for your dining. Similar to one in your idea book.

However, you might focus on one area and then work on the next:

color of cabinets and so on.

Then, maybe you will have more inspiration with the decor.

The kitchen I see is elegant (yet understanding you don't want a lot of busy elegant decor) in some way not being able to see the whole kitchen nor dining which is visible as well.

are you going to put pulls/knobs on the drawers and cupboards? Another thing to take in to consideration before choosing (different styles out there and metals) a lot to choose from and some really great styles. Nothing wrong with mixing metals as long as they work together such as pendants and your pulls/knobs, but if you are adding them.... you might do that first.

I really like that fixture. It has a nice color tone to it, simple, yet interesting. Where did you find this?

I think it would pair well with some modern kitchen pendents like this (not necessarily black). Problem is I haven't been able to find some that are more affordable.

Yeah, there will be hardware on the cupboards. Something simple and modern, perhaps black or gold.

what are you budgeting for lighting for the island first... the kitchen needs to be done first IMO.... How many lights will you use? Have you done the research on island length and ceiling height and so on for placement and size?

Yes, I've read thru that guide. Our kitchen is set up for 2 pendants. We need an inspection to happen in a few weeks so everything is being decided at once. I would prefer to stay around $300 (2 lights) for kitchen and about the same for dining (1 light). If I save money here, I have more to spend on quartz.

Also, where did you find that chandelier?

I am still driving myself crazy with light fixtures and kitchen lighting. I created some quick mockups of our kitchen. On the right I included a photo of something pretty close to our dining table. I have always loved gold hardware, I just don't know if it works here. But the black seems so boring... maybe if I use black hardware I need to change out the pendants. Either way, I feel like I'm constantly competing with the stainless steel appliances. I'm cool with mixing metals, just trying to find the right balance.

A good way to find the balance you're looking for to tie in all the different elements into a space is by adding kitchen accessories. By doing this, all the different metals and woods will not be competing against each other because the accessories will help tone them down.
