Unless you have very close neighbors with animals I just don't see how this could be any other cause but that the quilt had them in it. Please don't be offended, but do you have a rat or mouse problem or even bats? If not it has to be the quilt. Unless you really prefer to bomb or hire an exterminator, you can try this first: get a box of 20-mule team borax, it's in the laundry aisle. Sprinkle it all over all the floors and leave it for a day. (You'll have to wear socks or shoes, it feels like you're walking on sand.) Then vacuum it up. It could take a couple of tries but we've used this method in the past for fleas back before we started giving the dog a prescription for fleas. We live in Florida and we know about bugs here.

Thanks, Rita, and I'm not the type to get offended! Have never seen evidence of vermin, but we have a contract with an exterminator, so I guess I could ask them to check. We live in a newish townhouse downtown, so the chief pests are squirrels and termites.

We bombed today. I don't see any dead bugs, but dead fleas are probably pretty small. I do a lot of charity sewing for preemies and kids with cancer, so neither fleas nor chemicals is something good in my sewing room.

Squirrels are notoriously flea ridden. They could be the cause of the problem. The fleas could have hitch-hiked inside on your pant legs.

Of course the quilt could have been the culprit, too.

The exterminator can fix the problem. It will probably take more than one treatment because of the eggs' cycles.

Had a flea problem 40 years ago. I remember having to bomb the apartment repeatedly on a regular basis because it only killed adults and not the eggs. Eventually I got rid off them.

Fleas can ride in on your shoes and pants. If you have neighbors with pets or if the quilt lady has pet or pets it's possible. I don't know where you are from but where I'm at we had like one day of winter so fleas started showing up in February. They just maybe everywhere right now and unfortunately found their way in.
