Elux Induction Range issue

Wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

I have the Elux EW301S80RS slide in. This is the current state of things. We purchased last fall and installation was Jan or Feb. Within a short time we'd get an F11 error message but it was inconsistent, sometimes multiple times in a cooking session then not again for several days or weeks+. Most often when using the front left hob, that's the one I use most, but sometimes with others as well. Pressing Cancel would shut off the error message and beeping and allow cooking to continue. Could not get it to replicate when repairman was here on more than one occasion, of course. Recommendation was to replace both control boards so they were ordered under warranty. He came here yesterday to replace, and once the old boards were removed it was obvious where the problem was and the 'burned out' area was visible on the board. When installing the new boards, however, he ran into an issue. There is one lead that won't fit - there has been a change in the pin design on the new board and no retrofit piece included. We are *hoping* to hear today from the repairman on the fix Elux recommends and how quickly that fix will be done. We had to wait a week to get these parts, although still had the use of the range during that time - now obviously we have nothing.

If they've changed the design and don't have a retrofit piece, then what?

Then I think you escalate and let them know you expect a new oven since yours is unusable. Hopefully they have a retrofit piece. I can't imagine they wouldn't.

If the circuit is the same and the only problem is a connector, I can't imagine that the new cable couldn't be spliced into the old connector's cable (assuming it wasn't slagged). But "couldn't" isn't likely the issue, it would be Electrolux approval.

Else they would have to replace assemblies until there was no mismatch. Parts changes within the whole raise the question of retention of UL approval, so the suggestion by cpartist may be their only choice.

Thanks kaseki. That makes perfect sense and if we were out of warranty might be the approach my DH would take but not at this point. Right now I'm just really frustrated at the lack of response. It was Wed am when the repairman was here. I called the appliance store to ask for status Thurs am and was told they were still 'inputting the service call info into their system' and THEN they would contact Elux and find out what to do but said I would probably hear back from them before close of business - I didn't. As of today they are waiting to hear back from Elux. You can bet I won't be hearing anything till after the holiday.

I would call Elux myself and let them know what is happening. Call Monday although most likely it will have to be Wednesday.

I did hear back from the appliance place and they did get a sort of response from Elux. They don't know why the pins don't fit and there is a discrepancy between the part #s in various places, so appliance place sent them photos of everything. Now we wait because Elux is closed till the 5th.

Ugh - frustrating. Hang in there and let us know how it works out. I hate dealing with broken crap. I also hate dealing with some repair folks that end up messing up more stuff then they fix...

So what's happened with your range?

What happened? Nothing good. Or more accurately, nothing at all. We even stopped into the appliance store to see if being there might light a fire under them but their hands are tied until Elux figures out what the problem is. So we took all the pertinent names and #s and called Elux. DH has been doing this for a long time and generally has success when he speaks directly to someone in the engineering dept. They're trying to figure out what part is needed and say it will be another 1 - 2 days, and then who knows how long it will be till we actually see said part installed. Today was day 10 without a stove - I'm pissed.

Oh, and we also called the Elux national parts center which is located about 10 miles from us but they're totally useless. The only thing they know is picking and packing, nothing about what goes where. I did leave a really pissy comment on their FB page. I don't use Twitter but I'm half tempted to sign up just for this.

Just to update because I know you are all hanging in suspense waiting.....

Day 17 with no stove. We have spoken with multiple people including a security guard (honest) who happened to answer one of our calls. Multiple people told us to speak with the same person, transferred us to her voicemail where we left messages. Crickets. Repeatedly assured we'd get a call back but no one ever followed up. Even the customer service people who promised to get back to us never did. Until yesterday. The mystery woman called and said she'd been on vacation. What? Nothing to that effect on her voicemail and no one else that she works with knows she's on vacation? And not a single other person within a corporation of that size is able to figure out a parts problem? SMH She seems to know what the issue is, said she was going to pull what she believes to be the correct part and get back to us today with a photo before she ships it out. It's noon. Nothing yet. I am astounded at the lack of customer service from Electrolux. There's a long email waiting to be written and sent to the higher-ups if i can get contact info for them. The local appliance place in strongly encouraging us to buy the extended warranty. Ya think?

juddin what I would do at your stage in the process is this - go to your local appliance dealer, multiples if you have them in a reasonable distance and talk to them about service history with whatever specific products you are considering. I would NOT take the word of a floor salesperson about this but talk to the service department. Find out if there are repeated problems, if those parts are stocked or shipped from the mfg, find out what the normal lead time is for even getting an appointment for service. For warranty work the place you purchase from may or may not be authorized for service, something we didn't know. We bought all Frigidaire and Elux and in our area ( western NC) there is one place for warranty on each - had warranty icemaker and dishwasher issues with one repair place and now the stove with the other. In our old house (suburban Chicago) we did a new kitchen many years ago and never had issues with any of the appliances, Amana and Kitchenaid. Honestly when people here talk about all these problems with current appliances I thought they must be abusing them to have so many problems but boy I'm eating my words now. I don't think any mfg is immune.

    DLM2000,

Did you pay by credit card? If so, see if you can get a refund and ask them to pick up their range. I would stop dealing with the repair people at this point. I would also send them a certified letter to the service company letting them know that you have given them multiple opportunities to fix the unit and they have not responded. I would find out if your state has an appliance lemon law that you could leverage. Start with the credit card company though.

Just crazy to be without a stove for over 17days!

DLM2000 good advice. The appliance dealer I'm thinking of using has it's own service department but up to now I've only talked to a floor salesperson. Thank you.

    Update -

homepro01 we did pay by cc but our appliances were ordered and paid for long before we moved into our house so there is no refund option available, I checked. We do however, have a one year extended warranty automatically through our cc company and got the details on that. That clock starts ticking the day our mfg warranty runs out and they can't step in before. I was ready to pull the trigger and purchase an extended warranty - glad I didn't - all our appliances are covered. After that 2nd year warranty I can determine if I want to purchase to extend further.

Getting to the bottom of the 'wrong part' issue was a nightmare and should never have been the problem that it was. It was simply mislabeled, nothing more. But it took threats of contacting the NC Attorney General Consumer Protection Division to get any action even though I am told they've been working on the issue all along. Coincidence? Perhaps.

We had to fight with the approved warranty service place to make us a priority - they wanted to schedule us out 10 days and already had the part for 2 days - we knew because Elux gave us the tracking number - and we called them to schedule, they didn't call us. The replacement part was installed last Fri, the servicer 'couldn't find 4 screws that he says he left here but oddly, all the other parts were right where he left them. He cut the gasket that protects the control board too short leaving a gap where any liquid used during cleaning or that might spill or boil over could run right into the control board. Response was 'it'll be fine'. He tested the stove while it was still pulled out into the middle of the floor. Once pushed back into place and re-leveled he left before testing again and we didn't think of it either. Of course when I went to use it there is something loose inside probably something that didn't get screwed back into place with they mystery screws. So there's a loud buzzing (engineer DH calls it a synchronous vibration) during use that wasn't there before. And.... the initial F11 code came back on almost immediately.

All told we were without a stove for 25 days and even that took near constant pestering - that's the polite way of putting it. My husband took over the communications with Elux early on in this fiasco. I stepped back into it yesterday and as of today we are on tap for a replacement, not likely due to anything I said or did but who cares. It will take them a while to work through the details, find a dealer who wants to take this on and get it set up - the dealer has to be on board with this - they are not obligated to do it. I will be notified when they are at that point and given the model # for approval. Elux said to expect 6 - 8 business days to get it arranged.

So here we are. We have a range that is mostly functional while we wait for the replacement.

    DLM2000,

I am so sorry to hear this. It feels so frustrating just to read your account. Why are companies so stupid? This issue could have been resolved on day one with a replacement for your unit!!!
