Last year, I bought big burlap bags and filled them with straw. I carefully nestled them around my fig tree and covered it with a tarp. It was a perfect home for a long winter nap.

Unfortunately, mice found it a great home too, and chewed the tree all the way down to the tree wrap I left on the tree. They also chewed holes in the burlap sacks, making them unusable next year.

The fig tree is now growing nicely, but I don't want to repeat that mistake again next year.

So I'd appreciate any suggestions for this winter.
