Looks great! How tall will the potted bamboo get?

I like the low maint. aspect and can see where the homeowner can add additional pots or a pergola later if they want.

It's lovely but I don't understand why you wouldn't put a pergola for shade and protection for the furniture.

This looks perfect for Oregon, you don't need shade since there is not a lot of heat to hide from. I am sure it was a good bit of work, but SO WORTH IT!

This is beautiful. Love the pavers. Don't know if you are aware that bamboo is a mosquito magnet. Might not be an issue in Portland but its a huge issue in Florida.

Dramatic change to the space, nice job! For those of you suggesting a pergola for shade, from the photos it does not appear that it is needed. More importantly none of us know if the client wanted a pergola or if their budget allowed such a structure. I'm sure Ross NW Watergardens gave his client more than they expected. Again, nice job.

Ginkgo Leaf I agree with you about the pergola. I mentioned it in my original post because of the two things you said. First, budget may have precluded it right now. Second, they may not want one right now. That was a part of what I like so much about this 'after' is that there is a lot of flexibility so that they can change things if they want as they go along.

It is amazing how much more visual space there is. Some questions: what type of bamboo (looks like a phyllostachys nigra) and what is on the ground beneath the planters. (If there are holes in the planters, watch out that a runner from the bamboo doesn't escape into the ground via that exit).

Looks fantastic! Love the concrete work and lights. Nice mood! An offset umbrella will take care of the "pergola" suggestion and offer shade and coziness. Great work!

Frankly from the looks of the photo, it appears this area doesn't get much direct sun. (?) Perhaps a well placed umbrella or even a roll away shade off the side of the building that could be used when needed? I would add a heat lamp before I'd worry about the other things. Love the lighting and the pavers. The thing I am most curious about is the fence... was it painted? replaced? Did you do anything new to the fence?? It looks transformed. Personally, I would add a nice vibrant green potted plant in the seating area for more color.
