Not wasting your time, I like what I am seeing/hearing. And I do have area rugs. One is a 5 x 8 silvery shag that I am thinking of storing until winter. The other is a silvery colour with some very light blue around the edges and a medallion type thing in the middle, but it needs cleaned and I have a couple of sheep skins.

Sounds good, definitely like the idea of sheepskins, like the shag especially for winter. Is the silver with light blue an Asian style? Modern? Lots of people using sheepskin thrown over chairs or sofas or just put on bench seat area to soften wood. Might be a way to lighten up the look of brown leather sofa, just thrown over the back and hanging down a bit.

@anumaura The brown leather 3 seater replaced the white fabric 2 seater for many reasons, not enough seats, dogs, cats, kids, it was a nightmare.

The move was horrendous! Our helpers didn't show, we got a 14' truck as opposed to a 24 or 26, so took several trips, but it is over and we are now starting to paint etc. I will post a pic of the front in a day or two and thank you for the good wishes!

It can only get better ( I hope!!!) keep up a positive attitude!! Can't wait to see pics, try to enjoy :)

So on another discussion, I was asking for door colour suggestions, I went with yellow, here is a before and after...

like the front of your house! :) yellow does brighten an otherwise shadowed entrance. did you try red for the door?

We did some red samples, looked too gloomy in the recess :(

So we are making progress in the kitchen, the table and chairs are painted, I ended up making cushions myself, one light is up (but needs a longer cord), the new curtains are up and the dining area walls are painted. Hubby needs to finish painting the rest of the kitchen and then I can place the last few items. I have a kitchen chandelier (shown below) I am debating on whether to paint it the same blue as the table, or simply a fresh coat of white. (I will post pictures when it is all done :) )

I am also starting on the front hall aka foyer and I need more opinions here. I am inspired by Farrow and Ball's photo (shown below). I have gone with a lighter gray though for a start and will do deeper shades as time goes on. The debate is: do I paint the door frames and coat rack white or gray. There are three sets of doors, the front door, the door to the garage and a set of double coat closet doors, do I paint them apple green like in the photo, or gray like the walls, or the front door apple green, the garage door blue (like the table in the kitchen) and the double doors white. Help please!

Sorry I didn't see this discussion earlier.. As someone who appreciates how important the colors are in a space.. I have a app that came out recently (and was featured in the app store already!!) that is the best app for COLOR inspiration! You can create a palette on your own or choose a theme of colors and use it as a guide to choose the perfect colors for your home. Many decorators have told me what a great tool it is for anyone to use. Its Color911.com

OKAY HERE WE GO!!! The Kitchen reveal!!!
I still have a few odds and ends to finish up, like the curtains, but for now this is what we have! This is the kitchen half...

I am still unsure about the mural, I may paint over it.

It's looking good, why can't I see the mural very well? Everything looks so streamlined and clean, well, I'm sure it's clean, but you know what I mean ;)

It might be the lighting, and the mural is in the same light blue as the table.

Oh and we are working on the living room and finishing touches in the hall, so more picture soon :)

Looks nice and clean. Mural is interesting. Why do you want to paint over it? I wish you can do the branches only, over the remaining wall too.. Love the blue painted dining table.. Do add tall artificial bunches of blue hydrangea on the table that stand out for warmth.
Love the curtains and the design and material of the clock. The clock is a real excellent addition. :) You could consider moving the clock, away from above the bin, over onto the mural wall if you like the idea.. You've done great with your Rental Kitchen! :)

I did the mural myself, and I am not really keen on the job I did on the birds. It's hard to see, but the mural is the exact width of the table. I may paint over it and do something else, like branches across the entire wall. I actually like where the clock is, it can be seen from the living room and as we go out the back door, but I was thinking of tying little ribbons to the phone cord, so it looks like the tail of a kite :) And thank you!

How adorable, love the little tail of the kite idea. If you get tired of painting, or if you'd like to add to your own painting, they sell wallpaper decals that look like branches, you could then paint your own little additions to it, maybe not as formidable a job when you look at the whole stretch of walls in room. What a lovely sanctuary that would be.

Just to give you a few ideas, you could just use the branch parts and paint in your own birds, flowers, insects and even a kite or two :)

Hubby is putting the second coat on the living room as I type :) Today and tomorrow I will be doing the finishing touches on the living room, so pics either Tues or Wed.
I was working on a few finishing touches for the foyer and it's now all done, except the doors, I have to wait for payday for that, but will take pics and post them tomorrow.

Front Hall Reveal!!!
Unfortunately I did not take before pics for this and I should have, well it was just a bland beige like the living room and obviously had nothing in it. I decided on a darker gray to keep the cave as a cave and create a feeling of closeness and intimacy, and it will make even more sense when I reveal the living room. We are going to paint the inside of the front door and that garage door green, but we just haven't got that far as yet. Due to the placement of clocks around the rest of the house and having kids and hubby going to school and work and general appointments etc, we needed a clock in that space, but just one would have looked lost and sad, so I did three on different time zones, of course Toronto is where both hubby and I were born and raised and our current time zone, Paris 'cause I am a francophone and it keeps in with the french thing and Glasgow as that is where most of hubby and I's ancestors are from. (I think I need to do a complete tour once I am done, on a new thread lol)

Oh and the last pic there, that is George, hubby got him for me years ago at the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) for a b-day present, he always has a place in our home where he can watch over us :)

Think light greys would look lovely here. Tile a feature behind the stove, something like a herringbone, has lovely bones to work with , can always add you stripes which I also love, have fun.

Karenht I have to consider how much I do put into this house, as for the moment, it is a rental :)
For stripes in the kitchen, I did do striped covers for the chairs.

Great you are on your way. Match the window shade to chair covers and paint a feature wall behind the stove , choose one of the colours in the stripes you love. the other walls you. An do a light neutral.

Like the covers, put a tie on the 2 back corners to finish it off and tie it to the chairs. You can do behind the stove in a bit lighter of the same blue or introduce the chair colour or darker neutral with lighter for the other walls.

Ummm not on my way, we are all done the kitchen (see after photos above) except for hemming the curtains on the sliding glass door and putting loose white lace above the sink. We have moved on to the front hall, also now done (see pics above), and the living room (almost done). I may at some point do something removable behind the stove, but I may not :)

About 8 years ago, I had seen this chair in a consignment shop, fell in love with it and went back to get it when my father gave me some money for my birthday. In our home she is "mom's chair", but we started a tradition that whoever's birthday it is, they sit in my chair to open their presents, so we now have numerous pictures of our children in the chair on their birthdays going back several years now. After 8 years of a busy household, kids, cats, moves, she was looking very sad. She was dirty, both her back corners were pulled half apart by said cats, she has dings and scratches etc. So I literally shaved, with a hair trimmer, all the tufts and pulls, cleaned her with upholstery cleaner and gave her a bit of a paint job.

Thera, what a good job you did, it looks reupholstered!!! Fantastic work, I'd hire you!! Better than buying a new chair, any day. :)

Love the idea of the three clocks in the foyer. After looking at those i felt the closet doors will part :) (me and my imagination ;) ).. Foyer looks nice and warm with the grey paint.

Ack, I wrote a response and it didn't take?
I know it is a little to sparse and minimal for some, but the kids love it as they can dance, play video games, lounge without fear of bumping into something and I am not holding my breath afraid something will get broken. Hubby is the kind of guy that if there is a single dust bunny in the middle of an empty room, he will either stub his toe on it or trip over, but he's not having that problem now. It's very freeing and relaxing.
Also, you can't really see it, but hubby assembled a table behind the couch to serve as a desk and we are re-configuring some creates for my supplies, so I can sit back there, out of the way, but still a part of everything and paint to my hearts content :)

when you get bored of current arrangement, do try the sofa with back to entry.. that'll make the room look longer..

We did try the sofa that way, it is simply too big, and yes there is an empty frame by the window :)
