Euphorbias, indoors, west windows. E milii x moratii

See how these 2 clumps are angled? When thirsty, the branches lie down horizontally, strange. I water to overflow & they stand upright again.

First time bloom for this, Euphorbia francoisii.

    Oddly cool

What time? I think my A. rufescens bloomed, but I missed them all.

End of the afternoon. Short before the sun disappears (but only here on hot days)

I remember we had lots of cloudy skies and rain then. That might explain it. Anyway, next time I will make a point of being there late afternoon. Thanks, Harry!

Agree with Harry! Best to be there for the late afternoon and evening to try and catch it open. I found it's better to not move it in order to risk the flowers not opening.

Well, I hope it will give me a second chance. It is busy growing leaves now.

Well. Now you're all telling me. I've missed every single one, too. I thought evening. At sundown I wasn't looking. Arg.

Rufflife, I am certainly no expert with any plant ID. From my own GMF and pics I've seen, not sure yours is he same. It is a Gymno and looks like one of my other Gymno's and like yours has white flowers. GMF usually has Pink or shades of pink flowers but can have white also. This the one that looks like yours

GMF usually has more pronounced ribs and has horizontal banding. Mine get full sun and turn red rather than the more green color and it becomes harder to see the banding.

First sign of life - Conophytum Tantillum

    rina_Ontario,Canada 5a thanked noyade233
  • 9 years ago

Thanks Bikerdoc5968 Z6 SE Mi (6). My GMF was also listed as a 'Plaid Cactus'. Here's another pic of it, before it bloomed. I'm not good at id's, that's for sure.

Rufflife, even with the above pic, I question its ID. Look at this link and you will see the deep furrows and sharp ridges of GMF. Also note the banding which is a hallmark of this plant. http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/GYMNOCALYCIUM/Gymnocalycium_mihanovichii/Gymnocalycium_mihanovichii_friedrichii/Gymnocalycium_friedrichii_L373.htm

i should have seed in a few weeks and would be happy to share as long as I produce enough.

I've had quite a few blooming this month, it's been great! Here are some pic's and a video! My collection has grown quite a bit these past few years and this years blooming season has been the best yet. I'll take more pics and video's as they bloom. Plant names and descriptions are on all the videos. Thanks!

Thanks again bikerdoc. My Gymnocalycium definitely doesn't have the furrows or ridges. I can see the difference.

And thanks Rina. Mine looks more like the G. baldianum, except mine has a white flower with pinkish edges. It doesn't really look like the G. quehlianum. At least I don't think so. :) But the more I look, the more confused I get!

    Neochilenea occulta

Bonus pic: Anacampseros filamentosa ssp tomentosa seeds. Note that the base (receptacle) of the dried up sepal wrapped around the seeds has started to dry up. If you don't catch the seeds at this point, that whole thing will fall off by sundown and scatter the seeds.
