Lol. "Tumblr" is now an adjective meaning really cute and trendy. OP is 100% sure to be under the age of 22; most likely in the 14-19 range.

OP, you could post some pics of what you've got going on already. Tumblr et al show tiny snippets--"vignettes", if you will--so focus on one area at a time to "improve." Maybe your bed, desk, or dresser is the place to start.

My best advise though is to learn what *you* like outside of the influence of too-perfect tumblr, instagram, Pinterest and add *your character* to your room. In other words, use your energy to figure out who your AUTHENTIC self is and present that to the interwebs. Or don't. Save your $100 bucks for ramen at college next year.

Btw I have a 14 year old and she gets this speech almost daily lol.

PS I considered it a great compliment when said 14yr old daughter told me my sewing desk vignette was "totally tumblr." For reference, it is an old mahogany custom made desk that looks like a writing desk but with shallow drawers down one side and a cabinet on the other. Hung above it is a watercolour sketch of a street scene, and on it is a stack of three books with a small Christmas cactus in a ceramic pot on them. That, apparently, is totally tumblr.

Oh boy...where are the youngsters when we need them. Is this what my parents thought when I told them I wanted a groovy bedroom??

Make a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream or marshmallows -or- a cup of tea with a recycled paper tag/pyramid teabag. -or- Hit your local independent coffee shop (or in a pinch, Starbucks *Bonus for posting a selfie at the coffee house) for a frappe = $5-$25

3) Put your cute drink on your cute desk (*Bonus if you spill some and STILL POST ANYWAY!!*)= $0

@Lindsey thank you! But I don't rlly care about making tumblr style pictures but I just need like tumblr style decor. Have it be artsy. Right now my desk is pretty messy it has a lot going on. Idk what to add... I could send you a picture of my desk and my room if you would like.

@Dragonfly tile and stonework thank you! Sorry I didn't have my windows open for more light to shine through. I am looking to incorporate the "tumblr" style into my room, not so much for taking pictures but I just like the look of "tumblr" style.

I remember your room from your settee dilemma--did you have any luck on that front?

I like your room just as it is. To acheive the trendy, cute look I think you're aiming for you would need to remove everything from your shelves and desk and replace with more generic, mass produced items and a lot less of them.

But I don't think you should. I really really don't. When I look at your room I can see your personality shine through and your belongings tell the story of your life thus far. That is what authenticity is and it's not something to be lightly cast aside. You don't want to live your life with your room looking constantly photo-ready, honest.

If you're ready to get rid of some of the things that no longer hold special meaning or serve a useful function, that's great. Start there, then add art and decor that you really love, that resonates with you on a gut level. This will be on ongoing process through your whole life. Check out farmer's markets, craft fairs, second hand stores, and Etsy for items that are unique.

When you hang shelves and art in the future, they should be at eye level when you're standing, or somewhere around 60".
