I am thinking of painting my brick house because it is jumbly looking to me,so I am not against painting brick.

To me, this house is classic and lovely and does not need paint.

And a carefully designed portico would be nice.

Yes, a portico would be great! Then replace the black metal railings with wooden ones, painted your trim color.

Professional landscaping would be the show-stopper. Your house is beautiful! The classic style and brick make it so.

If you are wanting a change, you can't go wrong with white or gray. For a more traditional look you can do white with neutral shades and for a more modern edgy look try white with dark shutters for contrast. For a really fun modern look, try a dark charcoal with either white shutters or a lighter charcoal with black shutters.

First, get the brick and trim power washed. It looks tired as you say because it hasn't bee maintained well. The bushes are overgrown and might need to be completely replaced. More flower color and curved beds would help. A nice pediment at the front door might be good or a porch even better. I will post some ideas. Bbl

I think adding more black would enhance the brick and overall façade. Once the large overgrown shrubs are removed, some nice window boxes on those lower front windows would add interest and more dimension to the front façade.

I love the brick and live in an area where this is a common look. You might entertain a portico and do your trim in a color that is a tiny bit darker.. it's stately, yes... keep it as such... I am not against painting brick on a home that, "needs it". Yet, your home can get some tweaks to make it more beautiful.

A curved porch/portico like this would be a real grat addition and a new front door with a curved window at the top of the door would mimic the palladium window above and would be a very nice architectural addition. I would paint the door glossy black and add a wonderful brass door knocker and kick plate to shine from the street.

A portico or porch is not a simple addition and a pediment would be simpler so it just depends on the dollars you have available to put into the façade. I would use the budget as I've stated rather than paint the brick. It is a lovely home and with some interesting new touches it will be a real gem.

Some curved wider beds in front like these would really pump up the look and you seem to have the yard to be able to do it as well.

My advice would be to build the entry porch, clean the bricks, paint the trim and update your landscaping, as suggested by others. Wait until all of that is done before you decide to paint the brick, you may not even consider it at that point.

I would also widen the brick stairs and make the entry more grand with curved brick to each side and a curved black iron railing.

With a portico and columns the expanded stairs would be ground the portico. Obviously, you need an architect or good exterior contractor to act as a GC to layout all the permits, drawings, and materials along with craft to accomplish this renovation. But it an be really lovely and it will be!!!

Please don't paint or stain your beautiful brick. Your house is so classic and lovely and well proportioned. I agree your landscaping could use a bit more color and a portico, if well designed, would be lovely but that's a far as I'd take it.

give the brick a good cleaning and try the black trim. or the cedar shakes. and the portico and bright flowers. The brick is beautiful w/the right accents.

This is a beautiful, gorgeous house. What I immediately envisioned was a porch whose roof line follows that of the window above the entry (setting sun). Please do not paint this brick. If you create a roof over the entry area, you could flank it with benches or whatever suits you, potted plants, etc. This house could easily be very stately from the street view.

If you do anything with the brick stain it, don't paint it. Here is a similar before and after. A portico would be a wonderful addition.

Landscaping needs some adjustments and I'd paint the door a different color. Other than that I'd leave it alone. It needs no embellishment. Very nice house.
