I assume this is a new home for you? Paint should ideally be the last choice you make, since you can mix any color paint to match your furnishings. If you already know what colors you have for couch, rug, art, and you want to paint before moving in, then let us see the colors. There are lots of great color experts on Houzz.

You need furniture. If you don't know what to do, then BEFORE you start buying things, get someone with decorating sense to help you to avoid costly mistakes.

it's a home for mom. The place is strange with the tilted roof and unusual columns so not sure what to do with that. But furnishing--hmmm.

That half wall in the dining room seems strange. It is too high. It is cutting off the open flow of the spaces. Does your mom have any furniture?

Most her furniture is dark walnut/ brownish leather; Not sure about the half wall--might be something structural. They built that bar nook but it is a bit too high as well.

I think a neutral dinette set would look nice. I would also suggest a neutral rug for in front of the sofa and some plants for living color.
