It's edible but you may not care for the sharper "greenish" taste. Only way to know is to try it and see what your taste buds think.

There are no alkaloids to worry about?

Nothing to worry about except tastelessness.

I like Dave's idea of just trying it, in a couple days I'm going to cook a ripe one and a half ripe one and see how much of a difference there is. I have enough for a canner load of pints so I'm hoping they taste OK.

I microwaved a ripe all tan/orange one and one that had some green on the outside (but both had bright orange insides) , ate them for lunch with butter and sugar, they were fine.
