I love Major Wheeler as well. I have read that Goldflame gets pm. Is there an alternative for Goldflame that is just as pretty but mildew proof? Or is there a great orange honeysuckle?

Lonicera sempervirens Trumpet honeysuckle is all I know. The flowers are coral and have orange on petal tips. I got this at the Raleigh swap.

I thought Major Wheeler was red. I ordered mine from Parks, maybe they sent the wrong plant. Whatever it is, I love it and so do the hummingbirds. :)

Lonicera periclymenum forms are fragrant without them being Japanese Honeysuckle. As it happens I'm growing the same selection the Raulston Arboretum is.

Much of my major wheeler did not comeback this year. Large containers next to house in full sun. I tried to encourage it by pruning, but not many leaves. I am going to transplant it in the spring. I wish it was fragrant.

I hope it will grow for you. I have a yellow one (John Clayton) that has quite growing, Not sure what happened to it this year. The vines look bare
