I received a lovely Grand Prize from the vendor to replace the Diamond Tiara which I erroneously received along with a gift plant. And what a gift it is. It retails for $200 - the mother of streaked breeders....Wish me luck with this one! I might add that I am not a new customer to this vendor.

What a nice surprise! Dorothy Benedict is notoriously slow to increase, but most people plant it in heavy shade. Give it a little more sun, and it should do very well. It's very hardy, just not a quick multiplier.

The Grand Prize is a very nice hunk of plant, and it's actually Grand Prize--hurray! This one is a fast grower, you can split that clump into singles and within 2-3 years, it will have clumped right back up. A spot with a bit more shade than sun will keep the color brighter, but it will grow in anything from full sun to full shade.

I removed a daylily and planted Dorothy in a spot where she will receive a combination of sun and shade. I hope she's happy in her new home!

Don, it's not easy planting a hosta in this ground riddled with roots. But I've worked out a system that works for me. I hack away the roots and dig a deep wide hole which I fill with organic soil. The shallow roots have room to spread.
