Need help with awkward kitchen wall

last modified: 9 years ago

I am ordering cabinets for my kitchen and I am struggling a bit with the penninsula wall...I am not changing the layout at all...I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what else I can do with this wall. I need to have some glass or open shelves here because I have some really pretty dishes I inherited that I want to display. I am just not sure about the angled cabinet to the far left. It will be functional for the person sitting on the stool below, but I'm not sure if I love how it looks..any ideas?? Also, I will not be able to have any pendant lights at the penninsula with the wall cabinets here... The width of the penninsula is only about 75"W. I'd love any lighting or wall cabinet ideas. Thanks!

HI -- You say your getting new cabinets but not making any changes with the layout . I am sorry but that does not make any sense and sounds like a waste of money . I would get rid of the angled section and just have the cabinets in a line . And the stove needs to be moved over to make room on each side for work space . You could have a see trough glass cabinet at the end of the new peninsula If you run base cabinets in a straight line then not having the angled upper cabinets there , then you will have room for some feature pendent lights. Perhaps getting a kitchen designer will help you so your not making huge expensive mistakes .

Hi Lefty47 :-) Thank you for your thoughts! This is the new layout. The house initially (and currently) has no cabinets at all on the left side of the kitchen. We can not remove the pole so we have to make that work. We have 3 kids and need to have a space for seating in the kitchen (hence the penninsula). I am a (fairly new to the field) Designer and am just struggling a little bit with my own project here. I know essentially what I want and what will be functional for my family (every cabinet was well thought out), but for some reason I am having a hard time with the area over the penninsula in this (my) kitchen. ;-)

...and there is 15" to the right of the range before the Ref end panel. The pole does not work in well with the cabinets in a straight line there, I tried that layout initially.

Becky, did you place the order for the new cabinets? If not, I highly recommend you heed cpartist's advice. You can learn a lot from the kitchen forum.

HI -- When I said to put the base cabinets in line will work and the pole stays where it is . The counter will just be wider with better seating where you have it now . Adding another pole to match the other at the end of the counter and have a glass cabinet /shelving between the poles for a showcase/cabinet . Would you not love to have that extra counter space ? Do you under stand my explanation ?
