Need advice on final kitchen design

Hey guys,

I'm excited to be wrapping this up. I'm doing a couple open shelved in the left corner of that window. Should i remove the high cab and make the shelves longer? Or do you like the High cab with shorter shelves?

Is that an island in the middle of the room? How much walking space around it?

Counter depth fridge? with door hinged on left?

The sink looks stuck back in the corner.

You are very short on counter space unless there is something missing.

yes island, there's enough space. Here's the full layout, sorry: I'm doing open shelving on both sides of the range hood. Its a unique layout - geo dome house with 18 sides - (thats why theres a partition that comes out. This is the best layout for the space, really. I just want advice on that back corner.

Every time you are washing something with 2 hands I would think you are going to bang your elbow on that tall cabinet - I would leave it off and go for the countertop space.... I think you should check with a designer before moving ahead with this plan... it is hard to tell form the pictures but things seem a bit out of sorts - the island looks too big, the walkways too small, you can't have that deep cabinet over the ref with out extra support or a panel on the left side.... get some things checked out before placing your order...

    Good luck!

Two feet between counters and island isn't enough. Move it out 1 more foot.

I get how a window would be nice over the sink but the sink is in the corner and that doesn't feel right.

I'd remove the tall cabinet for more open shelving. I couldn't determine your sizes exactly, but perhaps a single 30" wide pantry next to the fridge would work. The cabinet above fridge would need side panels on either side of fridge... they are 5/8" thick I believe... be sure to account for this thickness. As others have mentioned, be sure walkways are 36" minimum, and 42" preferred especially where appliance doors will open. Good luck!

This is no where near a final. It's not even a good first rough draft. You need Pro help.

Thanks for all your outside the box thinking. I should consult an artist and not a 'designer' for this one.

Banging your tushy on an island that is too close to the sink isn't an artist's province. Buildable, workable, and functional, are all what a designer will help you with. Pretty to boot. But, you've got a big challenge with that considering you basically want to live inside a golf ball.

"Art" comes after a functional layout.

It looks very dysfunctional. Is there a way to knock out that weird angled wall? It would make planning much easier.

EDIT: didn't realize it was a dome house

What is the diameter of your dome home?

How bout moving the sink like this? And doing shelves for uppers? Didn't really wanna move plumbing but if it makes a huge difference in function so be it.

Your sink area is prime working space. Let the counter around the sink go straight from the corner over to the stove. Skip that cabinet that is extending the counter to the left of the stove. It is just hindering the usability of your sink. I've taken your same dimensions and mocked up how I would do the space:

    thats next to the dishwasher?

what's next to the dishwasher? The dishwasher could go to either side of the sink. Your choice, but I'd put it in the corner.

What are you insisting i do please and what set of plans are you referring to? The first or the second set i just made? I'm not sure your orientation of the drawing. "cabinet that is extending the counter to the left of the stove. "

That is a space that demans full custom. NOT Ikea. Curved spaces are extremely difficult to have square things fit.

Cmon. It's not my dream home and I just want it to look good. I'm not trying to have a cooking show or host extravagant parties

Can we see pictures of the actual space?

everyone here is just helping you avoid a dysfunctional kitchen, it doesn't have to be a kitchen for extravagant parties. Just one that actually functions properly.

    You posted this plan:

and I posted this plan on the same footprint. Stove is red. Fridge is dark blue. Sink is light blue. Counters are green.

I get that you're trying to do this on the cheap. And that's cool. But this is not a project you should tackle on your own. The usability of a kitchen is too important to do it by guess and by golly. There are a lot of things to take into account before you even start thinking about aesthetics.

You are going to need a crap ton of fillers between cabinets to even think about making Ikea work. And very custom counters. You'll get more storage, and better results, by going custom all the way.

Is this layout where all your mechanicals are now? Did you consider moving the kitchen onto walls A & B instead of trying to build into the angular wall???
