Maybe just a simple drum shade over the table in white fabric.

Give the table and chairs a 1/4 turn. You'll see a change in the space.

Thanks Beverly. That's what I was initially thinking just to go with simple white drum shade. However, my concern was if it will be too much white?

Also should I try to match the metal of the pendant base to everything else in the kitchen, which is nickel (handles, etc)?

@ JudyG Designs, Here are a few additional pics of what's behind the table and to the right of the table, away from the kitchen. In terms of lighting considerations, I was thinking of white drum shade or go with another larger glass pendant (3 light fixture), or something more modern (bronze, candle type of fixture).

If you are worried about too much white (I don't see any other colors but shades of white and gray, but they might be there somewhere) maybe think about bringing in an accent color. I think a drum would look wonderful.

It appears that the light fixture will not be centered over your table. BTW your kitchen is adorable. With that in mind I am in favor of a more asymmetrical larger span fixture like the one posted by judydesigns. If it is centered then the drum fixture will look great .I love your dining set as it is without cushions. So inviting..like sharing a cup of coffee.

You could also do a simple drum with a little metal, just to add some visual interest without being too busy.
