My FIre and Ice has not bloomed yet. I am in NorthCarolina. It depends on where you are located.

You bought them for their blooms???? Hope not. They will get more flower scapes as the years progress. Each variety has its own bloom time. That is why the hybridizers collect and store pollen to play bees on their own time.

No I did not buy them for their blooms, I bought them because they go nice in that area. I am just curious on bloom time since they are newly planted and if they may skip blooming thid year because I just put them in the ground 3 weeks ago

how big are they .. maturity wise ...

a tiny.. cheap babe.. may not have a mature root mass .. and might not bloom .. and as flowering is sexual maturation ... and age matters ...

but if it is a second or third year plant... it should ... unless they were stressed a lot for some reason ...

if you are looking for seed to play with this winter.. i am thinking that FI will not give seed willingly ...

but i have to warn you .... though a gorgeous plant ... many of us.. gave up on it years ago.;.. as a dude ... i hope you win ... but if you dont.. dont be discouraged... we will enable you ...

Those varieties have not bloomed yet here in Minnesota. They should bloom about the same time with nice purple and white striped flowers. Fire and Ice is a much slower grower than Patriot which will get quite large so you have a nice arrangement there with room to grow.

ok great. I am new to hostas and thought they should have bloomed by now. That's nice that they haven't though, now I have some more fall interest in the gardens !

My Hostas database says the bloom period is July/August, so there is still time for them to bloom.

My Fire an Ice (16 years old) is just beginning to bloom now here in Northern California. If you want some spectacular blooms in August, look into getting a few plantaginea varieties (August Lily). They give you a bonus of large flowers and fragrance to boot!
