My balcony Garden success

I'm located in Kansas, this is my 2nd year with these plants and I could not be happier. I did have one complete failure in my silas woods sapodilla but I was not happy with the plant at arrival. The sapodilla lived for 9 months, made it through the winter but never recovered. I also attempted to keep my banana healthy all winter but ended up having to cut the shoot all the way back.

My seedless kishu flowered and fruited, however, I took the fruits off because It is small and has put no growth on. The Kishu like the sapodilla was from logees, I will not be buying again from this supplier.

My pickering mango has put out a ton of growth.

Last but not least it my miracle fruit. I was nervous about this plant since I have never heard any advice on container gardening but wow! This plant is growing pretty fast for such a slow grower and there are tons of flowers and fruits on this thing!

All of the "Air pots" that are in use were made this spring when potted up. Updates on how they work with the gritty mix will come. So far I have noticed the first week takes a lot of watering then you can back off a little, also like with other plants the hotter it is the more waterings are required.

Im also trying jalapenos and basket cherry tomatos!

When I move into my house I am looking forward to expanding my plant collection. Hopefully another mango and some more exotic plants.

Very nice pictures of your tropical plants collection! The new growth on your Pickering mango looks very pretty. I also have a Pickering mango and it has out performed many of my other mangoes. It's a dwarf variety recommended by another forumner here.

I've not heard of Kishu. Is it some kind of a sapodilla? I wonder what it tastes like. Your tomatoes and jalapeno look swell there. I think your plants are going to be very happy when you relocate them to your new home and yes ... plant many more. Keep up the good work!

It is a seedless kishu Mandarin. It has since flushed tons of new growth.

Those all look very nice! You'll have to bring them in during the winter. I have a miracle fruit bush and had to bring it inside the house when the evenings began to regularly fall below 60 degrees.

Hi, your plants all look so great! Where did you learn to prune them? I'm interested in pruning a lemon tree I recently purchased but it's my first time growing one and there's a lot of different ideas online.

It's unfortunate to hear about your sapodilla :( I've looked through Logee's and hoped to buy a sapodilla for myself someday (maybe using their website) but seeing your experience with them..I'm not so sure about it now.

I hope you keep us updated on your airpots. They look quite happy being under your care. I've thought about experimenting with air pruning with my tree except I only have one tree and it would be a suicidal attempt for me as a complete contsiner gardening newbie

My citrus has proven very resilient! I have read if you want to start trying exotics indoors start with cirtus because they are much more forgiving. My poor mandarin got not nearly enough light all winter but had no issues at all. My other plants did not do as well but they made it through! My favorite plant is probably the banana only because it is so fun to watch grow.

I will tell you right now the gritty mix+air pots are a TON of work but I believe well worth it. They need watered twice a day when its hot but I think they prefer the more frequent water with there roots never sitting in water. Im also do Osmocote slow release + a weekly dose of Foliage pro.
