Sectional too big?

Is this sectional too big? We measured and taped but of course it still looks way bigger in the house

Looks like a great size for your beautiful space! I agree that it's probably the shock of the change that's throwing you off.

I think this is a lovely, family friendly looking space. It looks like you could center the sofa better with your window by moving the grouping towards your fireplace to achieve better balance within the room--maybe 6 inches or so? I would also move the floor lamp from corner, next to sofa and invest in a long and narrow console for behind the length of the sofa to improve the view from the kitchen and prevent kids (if you have) from hurdling the sofa or rubbing dirty hands against. Love your choice of pillows and throw, looks great!

Sectionals are dictatorial monsters. No-one can sit in the corners. Sofas and chairs are far more practical, as they allow flexible arrangements.

It looked like "the thing that ate the living room".

I think it looks perfectly sized. I would love to sit in a corner of it and watch a movie/tv/read a book.

Yes, it's too big, but you bought it. Only one if your photos indicates any of the color in the room. Now you need to pick an accent color and some art, maybe an area rug with color. Beige, white and brown are begging for help.

Looks perfect to me , it seems bigger because you did not have one there before it takes a while for you to adjust .

I love a sectional that makes the room. Defines the room and owns the room. A smaller sectional would just make you wonder if you need an extra chair to fill the space. This couch is perfect in this room.

I'm not a huge fan of sectionals but this one is well proportioned with your room and home with great clean lines. Well done --looks great!

You're fine. It's big but it doesn't take over the room.

You could remove the vase of sticks that's right by the floor lamp next to the shelves. That's a cliche that doesn't do your room justice. And don't just move them to another spot.

Ours is holding up well so far. We have pets that have claimed the cushion tops and no problems. Also, everyone fights over the corner!

I think it looks great! Yeah, it's big, but in an attractive, inviting way. If this room is mainly intended to be a comfy, family-friendly place for watching TV, mission accomplished.

The size is fine. Shift about 6" closer to the fireplace and go with a smaller coffee table- maybe round or oval to give it some air.

I'm not a big fan of sectionals because I think they are hard to work with. BUT, I love this sectional in your space. I'll agree it's big but it looks very nice. Good job you have a lovely room.

I think it looks good. We are looking at a similar sectional with chaise on one side like that. Our family likes to pile on and stretch out and our attempt at going more "stylish" with a sofa isn't working for us. What are the dimensions of yours? Where did you get it?

That sounds like my family! It's from Macy's- it's called the Radley - its 148" W and 113"D 30"H - but you can make it smaller if needed- they have several options!!

Thanks, I'll check it out. We were looking at the IKEA Kivik but really I have to tone down my love of IKEA.

@m_gabriel---On a recent trip to IKEA, I sat on a chaise that I found shockingly comfortable. I say shocking because I find most upholstered IKEA furniture to be not-so-great in the comfort department. It turns out that the chaise was from the Kivik line. Living room chaises were not on my shopping list, but this one may well be at some point in my future.

Thank you all!! Super helpful when you are unsure! Love Houzz!

I think it looks just right. It is large but so is the living area you have and its is open to the kitchen so it works. I like sectionals over sofa/loveseat if there is enough room... And I love your floors! Looks like you have a beautiful house! Good job!

Its one large one! Home Goods!

I love it. That's the way to curl up and watch TV. Am I right in thinking that what looks like a chaise is actually an ottoman?

Thanks so much! It's actually a chaise!

Love it but I personally think it needs a bigger rug.....if odd size needed have a patterned broadloom cut and bound to go beyond the sofa; look up sizing rug for furniture and room.

It doesn't look too big, perhaps you are just not used to it. If you can give it a little bit of time (more time) and try not to over think things. Sometimes, we are so used to the way things have been, that the new way things look, might be hard to adjust to, so please be patient with the process.

The rug seems fine to me, perhaps you could move the sofa a bit to balance the difference and if you can ,replace the table it would give you an instant lift. look at this

It really looks lovely! Nice proportions and the chaise is in the perfect place to kick your feet up and watch a movie...I do agree that a round coffee table would be a nice addition and an accent table on the far side of the sofa (side w/o the chaise)

We certainly find good ideas and outstanding advices on Houzz we find friends who perhaps we will never meet in person a long lost relative with whom we have ties but never got to know , this is a place that will give us all of it all we need is to ask .
