Extending Hardwood Flooring

Help! We hate the carpet and want to extend our hardwood flooring out to cover the entire main floor.
The current flooring was pre-finished so to sand down becomes rather expensive and most contractors have said it would be cheaper to replace it all. (717 sq ft total)
The current wood is in great shape so it is hard to justify ripping it all out and paying to replace it all but do you all agree that is my best bet?

Pricing quotes:
$9500 to replace all with hardwood
$6500 to replace with engineered hardwood
$1500 to replace carpet

Sara Hendricks Falk, Have you taken pictures or even a piece of your existing floor to a local flooring store to see if they can tell you the brand of maybe match it? If its a good quality prefinished floor you may be able to sand it and refinish it to match the new flooring you want to add.

We've used engineered hardwood in our home office as well as basement. We absolutely LOVE the product. Whenever we replace our hardwood floors, we plan to use engineered products. They really hold up!
