kitchen and bathroom help!

We are building and doing all the trim work and cabinets in our house. We are doing birch boxes and knotty alder cabinet frame fronts and drawers and doors. The plywood for the shaker style panel doors and drawers is more red than the solid stock that will be the frame of the drawers and doors. How do I go about staining that to all be an even color? I want to keep it as natural as possible so faint stain colors would be great. :)

I would ask in the woodworking forum.

I don't know how to get there. I'm very new to this site. Also, can you not edit or delete posts?? I had other kitchen questions to add

I know just enough about woodworking to make an idiot of myself... lol....

If you want a consistent stain, I'm pretty sure it's easiest if you keep the species consistent. Heck, even the same species, depending on its age, storage, exposure, etc., can result in pieces taking stain differently, as I understand it.

Veneer may be what you end up needing, to achieve similar colors/uniformity, with so many different species being used for the cabinets.

The birch won't show at all, it's just for the strength and lower cost. Alder is EXPENSIVE! The actual cabinet box and shelves will be birch but the front frame that will show and the doors and drawers will all be alder. I live way south Texas and Alder is a very north wood is what i'm told so it's terribly expensive down here. It was odd to me how much more red the alder plywood is than the alder solid stock. We're doing a rustic, mountain lodge woodsy type theme anyways so not matchy matchy I think I'm ok with just to break up all the wood on top of wood on top of wood, but all in one cabinet I didn't know how that'd look.

CPARTIST is there a way to edit or delete a post? I have one on another subject and it doesn't offer the edit and delete buttons like this one does and I want to take it down.

You don't use plywood for the center panels. You do a reverse raised panel so that the center panel is composed of the same wood as the stiles and rails. That is the ONLY way to not have two toned cabinets. Alder is really really hard to finish without blotching like crazy. You don't need the additional challenge of an awful color match on the panels.

A better choice would have been hickory. It is far more locally available and not nearly as soft.

Unfortunately I believe that edit/ delete option is removed after a certain time period. Maybe after 24 hrs?
