Some Phalaenopsis will keep making side branches and could bloom for years but they will never be as beautiful as when purchased from a florist.

You could add some more stakes and tie it higher.

Also, you could cut the main stem off at the base........ do some searches on past Phalaenopsis threads.

Arthur is correct. Its hard for a new grower to cut a long, leggy stem when it still is making a flower. But, if you want a beautiful spike full of flowers you need to cut that stem/spike off. Let the plant grow over the summer and make new leaves.

Give it a cool down in Fall and your plant should make a brand new spike which will be full of flowers.

Another word of advise, when your Phals are spiking and buds first start to appear, don't rotate your plant. The emerging buds will always try and face towards the light, and they'll each be facing multiple directions; rather than all in one direction. To me, it looks like your plant was turned around the other way at first. But when you rotated it, the spike began growing back towards the light again.

I grow my Phals outdoors for most of the year, so they get bathed in indirect sunlight from just about every direction. This gives them a much more natural appearance when they bloom. You can still get that same look, however, when growing them indoors, this is something that you'll have to watch out for. Once the blooms have opened, then you can turn them to face whichever direction that you want them to.
