Kitchen Design Help

Hello,

I’m
looking for some kitchen layout ideas. I have a pretty blank slate as I am
moving the kitchen to a completely different room of the house. The only real
limitation is the chimney on the side of the house limits where a window
above a sink can go.

Some
thoughts:

  1. 1.The cabinets on the right

side are 15 ft long. And will only
be counter height so the kitchen is completely open to a large living room to
the right. I am planning on using these cabinets as the food storage area.

  1. 2. The cabinets/workspace on the

left is 18 ft long (from the edge of the fridge to the wall)

  1. 3. The top wall (with the double

doors leads out to a patio)

  1. 4. I would like to keep the left

side/island the work area (sink, dishwasher, oven, stove, microwave, etc.)

  1. 5. Looking for thoughts on

appliances to put in the island vs. the left side wall (sink, dish washer,
oven, stove, microwave, etc.)

  1. 6. Also, range tops combos vs.

having a separate oven/cook top

  1. 7. Thoughts on dishwasher/sink

in the island vs. being on the left side wall. And which side of the sink the dishwasher
should be on.

  1. 8. Also not sure if I want the

island to have bar seating along the right side, or use the lower portion
(closest to the dining room) as an table extending off the island. The entire
island is 12ft x 4 ft currently so that would separate it into an approx 7ft
cooking area, and a 5 ft eating area)

  1. 9. Does a cook top in the island

need a vent hood? It’s a cathedral ceiling (16 ft) and I’m thinking a 5-10 ft
vent hood coming out of the middle of the room will look really ugly.

    1. Lastly if I put an oven or
cook top in the top left corner, are they ok to be right next to that patio
wall, or should there be some counter space there? If I need counter space, how
much so it doesn’t feel cramped?

Thanks!
