Apple trees

Hi, my brother lives in southern idaho and just moved into a place that has a few Apple trees on the property. He is not experienced in fruit tree care and said the leaves on his trees are browning. He did say they put some compost (Mowed grass and vegetable matter) around the base of the tree


. They water it every other day or every two days. Please help if you know what is going on with these trees.
