Landscape design Ideas

Hello, I'm looking for ideas on what to do with this space. A friend of mine just had some overgrown hedges removed and is preparing to replant their front yard. The space is pretty small and faces east. I've suggested a couple of ideas to him, but thought I'd post here and see what ideas you all would have. My suggestion was a trio of cycads beneath the large palm and some sort of tree on the right side. This is in zone 9b in central, inland California.

No bright colors to contrast with that white and blue and terracotta? I would play up the spanish feel and go with citrus and bougainvillea and other heat/drought tolerant plants if it were me! :)

Since he wants low maintenance he could try some Hesperaloes. HD has them,or he could seek out new cultivars that have even more blooms. NO care at once they fill in . Agave desmondia is a nice dwarf Agave and easy to get. Variegated too. Here's an apartment landscape done in very low care needs of all that. Some kind of Palo Verde in there..

Is it ? I didn't know that. Well,I guess some native carex could be used. I have some native grass I bought long ago..I really like it. Lost the name! Glossy green,fine textured,small black seed head- very small. I see my town is now using it for street divider plantings.
