I like cabinets up to the ceiling. Otherwise, you have a place for dust. You won't use the stuff on the top shelves much, but you probably have kitchenware you only get out of special occasions. My top shelves contain my Easter custard mold and my Christmas pudding bowl.

Agree. Build cabinets to the top--remember to leave space for crown molding. If you can make it so the crownmolding is a square it will look sharp. Put some trim under your microwave so it is flushed with the bottom of the cabinets. Above sink: if you can bring the cabinet all the way out so that the distance to the corner edge of the column is equal to the distance from the other cabinets on your dishwasher side (otherwise you will have that big piece of empty wall and it will look odd). Make sure you have spacers between your cabinets. You might have issues with doors opening if you don't. See how your door under sink might affect door in dishwasher when you open it). Avoid glass doors if you can (it works in some cases if you have nice glass ware and keep it neat and depending on your layout). ps: When you do your island, do all drawers. I hope this helps. Whoever did this design sucks. Go to home depot--usually they do good designs and present ideas.

Ok this is how it is now. The plan is to put the fridge in the closet, left side, still need to figure out some type of closet on other side (pull out?)

The dishwasher/sink relation is not very practical - if the door drops completely across the front of the sink it is not as easy to load. Are you working with a kitchen designer? I think there is so much more that could be done with this space....

Yes, I see that now... maybe I could put it to the left of sink. I was going to go with an 18" dishwasher just to save the space.

It looks like you are going to open the doorway more?? I would get rid of or shorten that piece to the left of the doorway and add all that to the sink run - get all of that countertop together and you would have a nice layout! You may want to post a few pics of how it is now....

Well, I'm planning on using the closet for the fridge plus some kind of closet even if small...what else will I do with broom, coats, some shoes...misc.. ?
The pantry I was thinking of using as pantry... there are built ins on one side and will be shelves and working area on other. it's not very big but get's a lot of sun.

I was going to do double doors on either side of stove but they would be 48" x 17". Seemed awfully big?

Pam: There are so many factors involved in answering that questions. Maybe start a new convo with pictures, layout, etc.

I would make that peninsula piece coming around from the stove... you will have much more workable counter space...and you can have a proper dishwasher etc. Having be a separate piece won't make it look like what your inspiration picture shows because you are separating it...Just something to think about...

What's behind the fridge in its current location? Looks like there's a doorway to the left of the fridge but can't tell where it leads. Just to clarify...is this your general plan...
