Strive to avoid the all dark brown interiors with few windows and little natural light...

The freight cost for shipping pre-cut log cabins generally limits choices to what is available from manufacturers within a couple hundred mile radius of where you live. I suggest you search on log cabin companies in your area and have a look at what they offer.

There is a wide range of "log" types and shapes, and how they are used in residential construction. Do your homework on the different types, as well as Charles' recommendation of what may be available within a reasonable distance of your site.

For example, I much prefer the square, "hewn" look, rather than the full round "Lincoln Log" toy house, but heavy look. I also like the relief that the traditional "chinking" gives to the heavy timbers:

We are actually looking at SIPS with log siding. I'm just trying to find basic rectangular floorplans.

Sort of a "belt and suspenders" approach to design and construction, eh? Both the SIPS and the logs are structural for wall framing so you really don't need both. Or perhaps you are simply looking for some sort of log veneer and not solid logs?

Do you really want to spend $600 a square for a self described Unabomber square shack?

Take a look at these.
