A short term quick assist for almost most bugs while you get HO or Neem, is to blast the plant with some hard spray. I like to squish aphids with my fingers then do the hard wash - something primal about killing aphids (think Tom Hanks yelling "fire").

During the summer months, to assure that aphids, thrips etc., don't continue to crinkle up the new tender leaves of a new flush, you should apple a 1 percent Horticultural Oil solution ever couple days. Doing so will prevent the new flush from becoming distorted.

but remember not to spray during the hottest time of the day. Early morning or evening works best. And if that is not possible, a place in the shade while the leaves are wet from oil would be okay too.

I sprayed mixture of baking soda, dish wash detergent and cooking oil this evening. I sprayed it on my spotty yellow cucumber leaves too. I did not know gardening was so hard.
