Design ideas for new apartment??

I just signed the lease on this apartment. If budget is no real concern, what do you think would make this place especially beautiful (mostly furniture, rugs, lighting, art, etc)??

Thanks so much in advance!

Lovely apartment with beautiful arts and crafts style details. If budget is not an issue and you want something consistent with the style of the apartment, I would take a look at the Stickley website for furnishings and rugs. They have some beautiful things but they are not inexpensive. You could purchase a few stand out pieces, such as case goods and rugs, to give more contemporary upholstered pieces a bit of arts and crafts style.

If budget is no concern, I would hire a professional designer to help assemble pieces that are worthy of that incredible space.

mild boho allows for a lot of flexibility, both in style and color.

Hire a designer. And buy things you would love in any home. Decorating for just one place is very wasteful.

Wow, what a great space! Personally, I like a mix of simple antiques and modern, but as the pictures above show, you can take quite a few directions.

I don't think that's a Craftsman house, though I can understand why one would think so. Those columns are Neoclassical; Craftsman columns tended to be square or angled. My guess? Edwardian, Italian Renaissance Revival style, circa 1910. I know, very precise guess, but it looks a lot like my house would have before the woodwork was painted. (I would love to see an exterior pic to see if my guess is in the ballpark).

I do think you have a lot of flexibility in the interior. Craftsman furnishing would look good and are appropriate to the era of the house (even if the house isn't Craftsman). Probably any period-appropriate furniture would look great. But I think it could look good with other styles as well (like the pic above of the kids at the dining table, with mid-century modern elements). I think it would look fine with contemporary furniture (say, Pottery Barn), but I don't think it would show off the apartment to its best potential.

What a wonderful place to rent. May I add in addition to the furniture/rug suggestions: lots of green plants! I am horrible at indoor plant maintenance, but if you are good at it, it would be nice here. Portable and inexpensive too!

I also second the idea of modern with simple antique.

Please post pictures when done (well, we are never really done are we? Okay when you get a reasonable amount finished!).

I love the photos above, but I would suggest that you stay AWAY from wide striped, herringbone patterned rugs. It fights with the ceiling beams. And the looks are 2 different.

Just to confuse you , I will add a contrasting opinion about the stripe and herringbone rugs :)

I like the visual weight of strong, more modern rugs because I feel they balance the visual weight of the beams. I also like them because they look fresh and not expected. I think you have to have some respect for the room's architecture but I don't think it has to dictate all your choices.
