I cannot decide on backsplash over cooktop! Help!!

We just remodeled our kitchen and I'm so in love with everything! Our cabinets are cherry bourbon. We did Typhoon Bordeaux full granite backsplash. I thought I wanted to do something different over the cooktop like an Encore ceramics Grace plaque but now my husband just isn't loving that. I have searched and searched and can't find anything that I feel compliments the backsplash and doesn't clash with it or compete with it. It's such a busy granite and a focal point in itself that I feel anything with a pattern would clash. But the area above the cooktop was designed to be a focal point with the mantle and spice racks coming down the sides. Our coffee bar will be getting Tilebar 3x6 bevel mirror tiles in a herringbone pattern. My style is more traditional, elegant. Which I guess is quite obvious with the crystal pendants, crys knobs, cherry wood, etc. I've already got a call in to my granite fabricator to see if we can get more granite and just put granite above the cooktop. I'm so afraid of messing this up. I feel like more granite is a safe route. I also don't want anything trendy. As much as I love quatrafoil, chevron, etc I feel like that will be dated soon. This is my last time remodeling a kitchen so this has to last. Any suggestions???

This is the plaque I was originally thinking of doing.

This is coffee bar backsplash we ordered

A design over the stove is a dated look.

I'd do the same as you have in the rest of the area or to lighten that spot up with a narrow herringbone, chevron or even fish scale in the same/similar neutral tone as you have the wall painted as it matches well with the wood and granite at least on my monitor... agree with truey above about them being dated.... If you go with a design keep it simple... very simple. Mirror over a gook stop would be a disaster.

    fish scale

far right herringbone style or second right chevron style. In a color taken from the backsplash.

Since you have the mirror for over the coffee bar... maybe a similar pattern for above the cook top.

Keep same as backsplash. Such a beautiful kitchen. No need for anything else.

More of the same granite or a sheet of stainless steel.

I would continue the granite. Keep it classic!

Wow that's a good looking kitchen! I would absolutely do more granite. The reason most people want a full height granite backsplash is for cleanability behind the stove. I feel like granite everywhere except behind the stove would look almost backward.

Nice kitchen! Agreed with others to continue granite at the cooktop. Also, change the backsplash receptacles from brown/black to almond or another color that blends with the granite.

Agree with Jan--get more of your granite and install that. The plaque is a very dated look.

Thank you for all the input! I had no idea the different design over the cooktop was becoming dated. There's so much of it on Pinterest so that's the direction I was going. I have always loved the plaques but definitely don't want to do anything that is a trend on it's way out. I had looked at some kind of interesting three dimensional type stainless tiles. There was a basket weave design I thought was interesting. But then I feel like it clashes with the rest of the backsplash. Doing more granite is definitely the easiest route to go so kind of glad to hear that's what I should be doing. Now just hoping my granite fabricator can get the same granite. While picking our slabs we found that there's a lot of variation in Typhoon Bordeaux from one granite factory to the next.

As for the receptacles, we had white, almond, brown and stainless samples and didn't like any of them. They all felt dated to me. The stainless covers were a consideration but once they were up it felt very early 1990's to me. My husband and I both liked the black the best. Though there may be more options out there than that were made available to us. I saw some stainless outlets at Lowes and went to get them but the voltage wasn't what we needed. The only outlets our electrician said were available was gray which was so commercial looking or white, brown, black. And naturally it's a decision that needed to be made that afternoon because he was installing them right then so black seemed like the best option.

Granite would look best. You won't get tired of it and it won't go out of style. Your kitchen is gorgeous and I think the cooktop area will still be a focal point because of the details in the hood and surrounding cabinetry.

I think adding more of your granite would be the way to go, but you should "frame" the cooktop backsplash with a simple border of plain tile which matches one of the colors in the granite exactly. Visit your fabricator and see if he has a good-sized remnant of your granite. There is no way you will be able to match the new piece of your granite to the patterns of the existing under-cabinet backsplash, so a border tile frame will give you that bit of separation to make the larger slab of backsplash the focal interest you want.

You will already have 2 types of backsplash (granite and mirror tile) so adding a third is much too much. I'd use the granite and probably would NOT do a mirror tile on the bar wall, but something less glitzy. But that's just me.

^Agree. The bar backsplash is very, very busy. Also, to me, it is dated.

Another vote for the granite. You have a beautiful kitchen! I'm not a fan of the mirror tile though.

Just wanted to give an update. I FINALLY decided what route to go. My husband decided he absolutely did not like the plaque idea and since the look of something different over the cooktop is dated that helped make my decision to just do more granite. Here is the end result:

We are so happy with it!

Then the coffee bar. As much as I love the beveled mirror herringbone pattern when I see it online I just wasn't feeling it when I received samples and held them up. I went to a few tile stores and bought a sample of every tile that could be a possibility. Absolutely fell in love with this one!

The lighting makes the grout look a little lighter than it is. It's dark gray like the tile. Lighting also makes my upper & lower cabinets look totally different shades. They're the same. LOL!

This was the final step in completing my kitchen. So happy with the results.
