They are naturally dwarfs. My Meiwa is grafted to Kuharsky Citrange. The tree grows about 8 inches per year and the fruit is quite taste. Unless you plan to flood it with bright light from October till may growing from seed is a waste of time. I have 5 Meiwa seedlings growing slower than any other citrus seedling. It may take 5 years to get fruit.

I've read that Kumquats do not always do well on their own roots and most nursery bought trees are grafted for this reason.

That said, I have half a dozen Nagami seedlings in pots - just because....

Does this mean Meiwa will be a grafted tree if I buy it from a nursery? I bought a Meyer and a Persion from Lemoncitrustree and they are on their own roots, not grafted while the Meyer from FW is grafted and now wondering why?

All Meiwa trees sold at nurseries are grafted. No one would spend time rooting or growing from seed.
