Hummingbird arches head/neck backwards

We get a ton of hummingbirds in the summer. Some do this weird arching back thing with their head/necks.Can anyone explain whey they do this? Can't find anything on the internet that explains this behavior.

    I just saw this twice today, same hummingbird. Sitting several seconds with its head bent off to one side. I was just about to go rescue it thinking it was hurt when drank & flew away.
