Note that in case you send more plants later what was being asked for was views that showed the structure of the individual flowers.

I thought perhaps that would be the most helpful, but iPad is my only "camera", and the blossoms are just too small to get in focus. Thanks for the hint, though.

White is tricky. You might fare better using a piece of darker paper or object behind the flower. That way your camera may focus better.

I've grown stricta in the past. It has neither persisted nor reseeded with anywhere near the enthusiasm of the hastata. Wish it would! This year, even the hastata has struggled. I had a veritable forest of volunteer seedlings last year that were allowed to mature. This year, a mere handful, and not in the same area of the landscape. I hope the seed bank is established and a better showing is in store for the future.

Neen, do you think the weather played a part in the poor turnout ? There was drought here during the time we usually have plenty of rain, and my garden should have lots of Verbena bonariensis blooming by now, but instead the plants are only a few inches tall. My V. stricta does well in very sandy soil.

I think it must have. We had a long dry spell, though I don't know if the experts were officially calling it a drought. I'd given up on verbena altogether when this little sprinkle of seedlings appeared in July. They behave essentially like annuals here. I can't remember ever noticing a resprout from a previous year's plant. My sister used to winter sow the V. bonariensis for her butterfly garden every year. Now she's in an apartment in St. Paul, pining for her garden!!
