Have an open beam ceiling Will add photos to this posting shortly. This is not a large kitchen in an open floor plan house (complete remodel). This is reverse floor plan with partial view from "great" room. Kitchen is a wall of cabinets and large island. Have lighting needs for pendent over island, and two locations ON the beam for lighting. One is over the sink on the island; the other is near the dining area. The space is smaller so we are putting in a bench against the wall with a table pushed into it - so the lighting above the beam is not exactly centered.

Someone recommended to me that we put long, flat out of the way flush lighting above the sink. And then have pendent and lighting that will go together. The only long, flush lighting I can find are industrial looking flat florescent lights. That just sounds horrible (lighting would be too harsh). I do like a bright kitchen but....

Any suggestions? I will post pictures from my phone in a bit.
