Here are the pieces I love. The glass table for the dining area, with the tall windows; the tufted sofa and chairs for the living room. The credenza will house the television. Not sure where to place these, or if I need more seating. What type of window treatment I should get as well as paint color. Any help will be appreciated.

Beautiful furniture selections. As your sofa looks very long ( and stylistically more formal than your other pieces - is that intentional?), you easily could use an extra seat; you will need measurements to know. I suggest graph paper to get started. You'll want a side table (give yourself 2' extra), if you have two chairs, and clear pathways through the room. As you experiment, try placing paper 'furniture dolls' catty-corner, as well. A carpet will tie your seating together, and help provide a supporting palette. Your fireplace is off center to the marble, so will some attention there, as well as a new screen.

The sofa choice- at my NY home I have a formal living room and a family room, which makes it easy for entertaining, so I wanted to marry both. Not sure if it will work. Do you recommend 2 chairs, one storage or Barcelona bench, and a sofa?

It could work nicely, but again, the measurements are imperative. The key to the appearance of spaciousness will be in using fewer pieces in the proper proportions to eachother Set a coffee table (is that where you mean for a bench to go?) 18'' from you sofa w your furniture dolls, and see if you have space for two chairs,side table and walking room -without cramping the arrangement. In a space this small, dimensions rule.

Studio10001, I was thinking maybe a bench or 2 ottomans can go along the side where the window is located in the living room. The wall is 9ft, total 12 with the door. For a coffee table, I wanted to use glass to create the illusion of a larger space. The ottoman I had in mind is attached below as well as a tv cabinet I had in mind, which seem that it will fit snug as it is 72 inches wide. The previous one works better along the 6ft wall. You are right about less furniture idea. I have to choose main pieces, and no crowding.

I like the 2nd TV cabinet. The CB one might not have holes for cords if it isn't designed for electronic components.

Hmmm??!!...Empalassie, you have a point. I did not think about that. I just felt like with the piano, it is going to be so heavy upfront. Leelee suggested that I move the piano, however, if I did I would reduce walkway space significantly.

That is a possibility. It would solve lots of issues.

What is around the corner from the piano? Is there a wall wide enough for it there?

You might find dining chairs on overstock.com. They are generally well priced, but most are made in China and need some assembly. However, they are sturdy, and inexpensive enough so if you get tired of them in 5 years or so, you can sell them and buy new ones. I would go with upholstered Parsons type chairs in a bright print--you'll be in CA after all!

Hi Nancy, the kitchen is on the other side of the wall. The piano is presently positioned in a wider hallway that leads into the dining area. As you can see from the photograph, the dining area has lots of sunlight. I like the idea of the parsons upholstered chairs. Had not thought about it before. Was looking at less formal dining room, and bring in color with accessory choices and paintings. The chairs I had in mind are Eames replica chairs. I have to convince my husband, if I am not successful, then I will definitely look through overstock's parson chairs offerings. You definitely can't beat the price.

Those chairs remind me of the kind you see at meetings, LOL! Very uncomfortable, at least for me.

And the wood doesn't match the table legs.

Nancy, starting at $75 per chair, it seems like a great option. I like the prints. This maybe a great opportunity to introduce color and help create a warm environment.

Lol...they do look like conference room chairs. We will be based in Silicon Valley, and I am trying to create this contemporary space. The chairs may be pushing way over into a more modern look.

Love your sofa selection but the chair with the buttons doesn't work with the buttons of the couch. I think you could do better for a cocktail table, too.

Thanks for the selection. You are right, the chairs do not go together. Also I agree that a console table will work better instead of the credenza, but we need the storage space, and a place to hide the cable box, and remotes.

Leelee, I have this chair in my idea book. It is plain, no buttons, or patterns. What do you think? Could it work with the sofa. The sofa is custom made, so I can change the fabric to match or to contrast a bit.

It's a pretty chair, paloalto, my only concern would be in trying to match the whites. It would look really off if one was bright white, for instance, and one was almost beige, you see what I'm saying? What about having the chairs(you'll want two) in a color, since they're fabric?

I like the coffee table that is oval wood and glass. It is narrow, and long enough for that couch.

I like this second chair better. I wouldn't recommend attempting to match whites; a layering of tones gives more interest to a room. This would add another!

I also understand what you are saying about the whites, but I think that I have seen it done just like Studio10001 mentioned with a layered look. So I am exploring that option as it is a challenge to match all the whites. Let me keep my options open there.

Studio10001, I like the rug. Definitely beyond my comfort zone, but I am warming up to it.

Would definitely counter-balance the FP by moving the piano opposite. Then you can measure for an area rug to fit in the space between.

I am going to have to look around the house, measure and see where I can place the piano. It comes out a bit so that may be the challenge. Thanks decoenthusiaste!

Thanks leelee. I was wondering, why don't you think that I should do the 2 chairs and sofa in white? The only other wall where the piano could go is the bare one photographed. The only issue is tjat it will be taking away some walking space from the entrance to the bedroom hallway :-(

When you go to a fabric store you see fabric groupings...there's a solid white, then there's that same white background but it has a subtle pattern and those are meant to go together. If you're getting two pieces from two places the color, texture, quality of the fabric might actually fight with one another even thought they're both white...or maybe not. If you could be sure before ordering that the two whites you're considering are compatable then it's probably okay. A near miss would be worse than a whole new color.

What about floating the sofa in the middle of the floor and putting the piano on the back wall where the vacuum is standing? Or putting the sofa perpendicular to the FP so that it faces the windows & front door, then chairs opposit sofa with coffee table between? Piano on back wall opposite FP. You might need to consider a slightly smaller sofa so that it won't overwhelm your room.

I don't generally recommend the TV over the FP but your mantel is low and it might be the best option. One problem is that you don't actually have any of your furniture so you don't have anything to try in different spots except the piano. You could fold sheets to the size of a sofa and get a general idea.

Leelee, thanks for you great insight and recommendations. I got more clarity from your analysis. I am going to try out the various suggestions to see what works best. Love the idea of floating the piano as one wall is the fp, one windows, the other is only 7 ft, and an opening to the dining room, and also borders a hallway door, and the longer wall has enclosed ventilated heating system and 9 ft wall where I was thinking of placing the sofa. Now let me try to put this all on graph paper as someone suggested to get this project started.
