Absolutely NO shiplap. Maybe some wallpaper. And you need a kitchen vent.

We just redid the cabinets and still have the change out the light fixtures and install a backsplash

Shiplap or Board and Batten are wall treatments that are not typically a one wall solution. It's usually a design element that is used throughout a room.

Wall hung pot racks, or narrow cabinets for spices,or chalk board. Ship lap only if you live in Texas or on a boat.

I think some grasscloth or tile would look nice but can't see shiplap there.

Where would you end the wall treatment? The wall goes all the way over to the other side of the kitchen.

I vote no shiplap and not grasscloth. I wouldn't want the uncleanable-ness of grasscloth anywhere, but especially not near a kitchen. Also it can't handle humidity, or abrasion.

I don't think this wall really wants anything--it's not a natural focal point. If you just want to distract the eye from the oddness of the cabinet, I might put a long shallow shelf up and have cookbooks there. Or something else prosaic and useful, not decorative. It's not really the wall for your starring piece of artwork, for example.

Ina I was going to run the grass cloth across the header it ends here. However, if grass cloth doesn't hold up in humidity it will not work in my home in the swamp aka central Florida. Maybe I'll just hang the kids artwork above the cabinet?

With no ventilation, Everything is going to get greasy and dirty and full of inextricable smells, so a porous textured wall treatment is perfect to capture that whole theme. It will be disgustingly stale grease smelling in no time at all!

Kid's art is a great idea! You could use one of these methods for quick change-outs.

You have very little color in either room in the pictures. It would look nice to add an accent color (medium rich tone) to the entire length of that wall. What color would you choose to coordinate with the gray base cabinets? Your view through the opening and into the large window should be considered. I see lots of green, and if you live in Florida, I guess you will have green year round.

If you are looking to solve the stove vent problem, look into the one that raises from the counter behind the stove when you need it. They are thin and raise only a few inches.

Downdraft actually have to have ducting to the exterior as well. It's far easier to run a square duct through a ceiling joist bay to the exterior than it is to jackhammer concrete and run a duct down through the slab. Plus, downdraft are all but useless, and impossible to install behind a range. Cooktops only.

Downdraft vent not possible? With no vent, you may want to paint the ceiling beige unless you have a fat-free diet.
No shiplap. Yes wallpaper, including the two cabinet doors... or you could add another set of taller doors above the lowers to give a more balanced look, and just paper around the faux cabinet.

We have ventahoods in our kitchen and outdoor grill area and there is not a better product on the market!! Ours have duct work but they are awesome!! Great reco Sammy!! Also I live in South Georgia and our grasscloth has been on the wall for 17 years and hasn't had to be reglued anywhere, just saying. If it's put up properly it won't be a problem. And you can put a sealer over it to keep it from absorbing smells which we didn't do and ours doesn't smell. If it did it would be gone girl!!!

Why not paint that wall to match the light gray cabinets...plus add some finish trim around the “cabinet”.....then do your art wall with white frames.....on other observation...in the pic ...the ceilings look low ...are they ?
