Experience with West Elm "Performance Basketweave" or "Eco Weave"

I am looking to purchase West Elm's Harmony Sectional in a lighter cream or grey fabric? Does anyone have any experience with the West Elm fabrics of "Performance Basketweave" or "Eco Weave"? I am concerned with the durability and potential piling. We don't have any kids or dogs, but the sectional would be in the living room where we will watch tv. I can only find information on the Performance Tweed fabrics. Any help would be much appreciated!

They send out free samples. I would order some and try to destroy them!

I am not totally sure but I believe the Performance fabrics are a form of Sunbrella type fabric and very durable. I agree order some samples along with doing some research.

Hi - Just wondering if you ever bought the sofa and what fabric you chose. I'm in the exact same place! If you bought it, I'm interested not only in durability but whether it feels soft :)

    Thanks!

Hi did anyone on this thread end up buying Harmony? Would love to hear what fabrics you’ll chose and your experience with the couch so far :)

@bjr7781 I'm looking at Harmony section in Eco weave, oyster. I haven't received the sample yet, but would you say they are performance grade?

They didn't send me the eco weave in oyster yet. But when I tested other samples they had sent, water beads up on performance upholsteries and does not get absorbed. Eco weave is not marked as performance, was wondering how it is holding up. Thank you

@Sonia, I was told that they were out of the Oyster Eco Weave fabric for awhile. I just received the sample in the mail, too late since I already placed my order for it last month.

I dropped some water on it and the water is still an intact sphere. That might change with wear overtime but it seems like a solid fabric. It is soft to the touch as well. I saw a floor model at the store in the Oyster fabric and automatically fell in love.

I have the Harmony 92” sofa in performance basket slub, feather gray, walnut. I never loved the color but wanted the performance fabric, so I settled. I am really disappointed with the fabric. The sofa was delivered at the end of May, and it’s now mid November. The couch looks like it’s 5 years old. The fabric looks loose, but what’s much worse is it’s ridiculously pilly. I like the couch itself, and you must get in some cardio by fluffing it every couple of weeks. But the fabric makes it look like trash. We are a family of two adults and a preschooler. We aren’t putting this this thru too much stress, and yet it looks exhausted. The fabric color also has the effect of making shadows and ripples look like dirt. Bummed.

@mzmalcolm this is a very helpful review, thank you. We were looking at the performance basket slub (slate) for the Harmony sectional and these pictures have me concerned. Are you able to post some additonal pictures showing a more zoomed out view of the sectional? thanks!

    @bcsams424

I would honestly stay away and choose a different couch.

I did visit the store multiple times to sit in the couch but the delivered product was entirely different. It looked nice but was not comfortable.

I ordered a 6 peice Harmony sectional in Oyster Eco Weave - regular depth in April 2021, recieved it in August and returned it in December. It has been a nightmare and I haven’t receievd my refund yet. Only 4 peices were delivered, 1 was damaged during delivery and the other peice was ”lost at the warehouse”. The couch was poorly stuffed, the fabric was uncomfortable, stiff, and rough.

The couch creaked, the seat cushions constantly needed to be fluffed and felt thin/dense after a handful of hours of netflix binge watching.

Kim S - Oh man! That is such a bummer. The couch is so beautiful and I love a deep sofa. We have been looking for a couch for over a year now. I was about to place my order tomorrow or Monday for 2 Harmony sofas. Do you mind me asking, what sofa you went with since returning the Harmony?

@Shay We honestly haven’t settled on a new one yet but are considering the Big Easy from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. We fortunately still have an older couch that we are using in the meantime.

I purchased the Harmony 3 piece chaise couch in Oyster eco-weave. We have 2 kids, no pets, but a very clean tidy family. The couch and the fabric are awesome and holding up really wonderfully. We were concerned too, but we didn't end up getting the Performance fabric because of many reasons but mainly we didn't hear great things about it, and it was at least $1000 more. Although we do love our couch, I will say dealing with WestElm has been a nightmare!!! Our first delivery of the couch was defective.. the stiching was terrible and the staples were hanging out - talk about a hazard for my kids!! After waiting almost 3 months.. we were very upset with the stitching and ultimately they had to replace it. We then proceeded to order a C shape marble side table to go over the chaise part of the couch.... that took THREE tries to deliver. Each delivery was defective and the marble top would not fit into the frame. And sadly.. you'd think after all these attempts to have a nice Westelm experience, we'd get the hint. we didn't. We then proceeded to order the Emmett Low profile bed in Alabaster (they told us that Alabaster was the new name for Oyster... I confirmed it with multiple stores and customer service). Placed my order.. waited 7 weeks for the bed to deliver. Oyster IS NOT Alabaster. And the headboard on our chic modern bed had a "wave" as in, it's not straight - at all. I had to call today and they have to replace our bed. The Alabaster fabric is definitely more of a warm, creme undertone than the Oyster eco-weave. We have learned our lesson and won't do business with Westelm again. They have ZERO quality control checks.

I have the harmony in “Performance Chenille Tweed Dove CS,” in a 6 piece sectional. It was delivered last June, so we’ve had it less than a year. I agree 100% with everything mzmalcolm says in her comment on this post. We’ve had the exact same experience…tons of pilling, misshapen pillows, looks old and worn even though it’s still new, etc. Also, there is zero performance from this performance fabric. The one time there was a stain on it I had to scrub it harder than I would have to scrub most non-performance fabrics and I still didn’t completely get the stain out…which is crazy and should not be the case with any performance fabric! I do not recommend West Elm…especially the performance fabric. 👎🏻
