18" deep bath cabinets may be more useful, rather than 24" deep kitchen cabinets. Will you have hanging space above the cabinets? If so, you may want to use 30" high, rather than 34" high, cabinets.

Suero, good points. Either seem like they would work as long as the drawers are the right depth to hold the items you want to store in them. It seems like I'm always fussing with cabinet drawers because they are either too deep or too shallow for my needs. A combination of shallow and deep is probably a good solution.

Why not install drawers that are sized for closets? Home Depot, Lowes and other big box stores have modular closet systems..the difference I see is that the width and depth are more aligned to what a clothes dresser drawer would be. I often see closet systems at our local Habitat ReStore Stores.

Ikea has 14 or 15" base cabinets.
