What sort of help are you looking for? Are you keeping the wood paneled wall? What is the brick? Before you decide on flooring, a basic plan is needed. Floorplan and furnishings? Lifestyle and style preference? Traditional? Contemporary?

Need to know how you plan to use this room first before you can come up with a good design. Also, need to know your design tast like Darzy asked...contemporary, country. what?

I can't see any way that it could hurt to remove the paneling, valances, shades and faux wainscot - and then you could think about what else you wanted to do while you were in there. ;)

Contemporary.... I just moved into the house and have no furniture for the room yet, I'm planning on using it as a family/living room. I'm thinking about keeping the brick but the wood panelling and everything else in the room can go!

Can you show a jpg image of the room with dimensions including doors and windows? How many you need to seat daily and will there be a tv in the room? Lifestyle? Kids, pets?

I feel a midcentury vibe.

Maybe paint the paneling a light gray and then white wash the brick or paint it white. Maybe even a mantle - paint the inside brick black and use for candles. I like the long windows. Use long drapes but hang them on each side of the window - BESIDE the window maybe to expand. Maybe french doors or crown molding at ceiling.

OR maybe shelving on each side of brick between the windows and brick. I think you could do something amazing. Paint the floor if concrete and use a big carpet remnate for a rug

I would remove the valances, blinds and wainscoting. I would either whitewash or paint the wood paneling. Perhaps a chest or table with a television, if will be using one in here, in front of the brick panel. Not sure if you have furniture already but if you don't, one possible configuration would be a loveseat facing the brick and two chairs to either side with a coffee table in between. Floor to ceiling drapes. And perhaps bookshelves/shelving along the wall in the pass through room for storage. I think cork would be a good choice if something you wanted to use for flooring.

Hey your right keep the brick but everything else must go!.. I think with that brick navy and beiges would look gorgeous so think about navy(not leather) couch with huge beige tan cream rug....with furry throw cover and bronze pillows and accesories....I'll try to get you a few inspiration photos...

Can't go wrong with art work to start with

It appears to be a rust color carpet. With the paneling gone, it gives you a chance to put a color on the walls if you wish or just leave it a neutral off white leaning towards brown. In a family room situation, I would choose a tan or brown color for the sofa/sectional perhaps in a texture to hide alot of the dirt. Choose a couple of chairs with some color to them and definitely add art that has similar colors to your chair colors to continue the color palate. If a piece of art speaks to you first, then choose the color of the chairs to go with it. It seems kind of dark in there, so definitely get yourself some good floor lamps/table lamps that can give you some task lighting. I would like to see the vertical blinds disappear. If heat loss in the winter and sun heat in the summer is a problem, I would go with a honeycomb mounted inside the window frame to help you with that. They also make a vertical one that slides on a track for the slider window. If you have pets, however, don't do these! Add a leather ottoman for your cocktail table with a tray on it. This not only allows you to kick back and put your feet up, but choose one that is a storage one and you have added some storage in the room as well!

Darzy this is the best I could do for image right now, seating for 2, I have a 12 year old daughter and a small dog. Hopefully once I get my computer connected to the Internet I can provide a better image of the room

I think the best option is to hire a local designer to work with you. If your taste is contemporary, you need to gut out both rooms and start all over again.
