I second the Miele rec. There are only two Miele options- their residential option or professional grade option (which some forum members have). With your requirements, the residential option works. Good luck. I love my Miele washer.

I don't really know the Canadian machines that well. I know they have something similar to the W3048, which we have here in the states (and is very good) but I thought they also had a slightly less costly option. The Little Giant is probably available, too, but the washer+dryer would exceed your budget. Livebetter may chime in as she knows the Miele Canada market better.

I would get the 3048, but I also use many of the specialty washes - silks, delicates, wool, etc. The 1753 does not have those.

If you can wait. Last I've heard, Miele will be introducing their new machines in December.

aamassther - I could wait until December. The build won't be finished until probably May, 2018. I am getting a jump on future decisions! There may be an advantage to buying at that time, especially if they discount the old models... :)

Mitchell - a machine that is untested would worry me a bit. I am leaning towards the 1753 Miele at the moment, but will watch to see if there is anything new in December. My biggest concern is the capacity - we are a family of 4. Anyone comment on whether it is big enough?

I'd be inclined to agree. The only thing going for them is that they are the same company that makes Asko (for better or worse).

So this week the dyer quit for the second time in six months (bearings) and the washer was making strange noises. They're 20 years old so I did my research and set out looking for replacements. I came across your Gorenje reference Mitchell in doing a searchin this forum.

The competitor's were Whirlpool, Electrolux, Bosch 800's or Gorenje. (bad experiences with 2 different Miele machines eliminated them immediately). For a number of reasons including the heat pump dryer, the reversing drums and the 5 year warranty, we ended up buying the Gorenje set. They are hardly unproven as they have been on the market outside of North America for at least five years and much longer for other models.

Ironically, the distributor directed us to the store that supplied our Gaggenau kitchen which is close by and their service tech is qualified as well.

They should arrive in the next couple of weeks. I can do a review later on if anyone is interested.

I'd love to hear a review on rare to come by Gorenje set.

Tara, just a mention, that the regular sized Miele washer/dryer set won't hold a king sized comforter or mattress pad. I have the regular sized set and I can fit queen sized thin to medium comforter. The thick mattress pad I have is a tight fit. But I love the machines.

Moebus, I'm curious what issues you had with Miele appliances. I've got a W48** pair that I'm keeping my fingers crossed for. No major issues to date, but two service visits in 7 years of ownership.

We inheirited a Miele dryer and washer when buying a house. Didn't have any problem with performance but one of the heating elements died. The machine was less than 7 years old but the part wasn't available anywhere. As they were undercounted units in the kitchen, we had to replace both. Always thought it was a 'one off' until the same thing happened to our neighbour with a Miele dishwasher last year. It was just over 8 years. The service rep said it wasn't unusual.

Sure, parts are going to fail here and there but not to find spares in such a short time is a problem to me. They have some nice machines but by engineering most of their own bits, they may not be able to afford to keep all the spares. More standardized machines share pieces that even allow someone to make money on aftermarket parts.

Seven years old and two service visits, that's terrible to me. I have a Maytag Neptune 17 years old and one service visit during warranty. No problems since.

I thought Miele guaranteed parts availability for 20 years. What is up?

it's not a warranty statement but parts availability statement. I don't know that they stated it explicitly on their website.

Moebus, are you in the US? i have 20 year old appliances (Miele W1946 and T1526) and most parts is still available in the US and the rest are available in Europe. I have 8-10yr old washer and dryer (W1215 and T1415) and all parts are still available. I also have a W3038 which is a newer unit under 3years old. I had a 13yr old dishwasher that still had parts. I am really interested in hearing about your experience because it is atypical.

I live about 150 km. northwest of Toronto. I hope it is atypical because a lot of folks here sure like their machines.

Sorry homepro but I don't. Thought I might have some documentation, but I can't find any.

Gorenje pair arrived today and installed. Only hiccup was the drain tube for the condensate was way too short to reach the back of the cavity when the machine was pulled out. Solved by adding a 2' piece of vinyl tubing.

No worries. Let us know how the Gorenje pairs work out. Are they 240volt machines? Do they do a boil wash over 190f?

Yes they are 240V machines. They supply an adapter for a normal dryer outlet to run both.

The temp. max, is 95C or 203F. While there are a number of set washing programs, you can modify their temp., spin speed, water levels and # of rinses. Indeed, you can even set up 2 programs of your own. Seems like a bit of overkill at this point but we'll see.

Very nice. 95c is quite respectable.

Short answer, we love them - better than anything we've had before.

So. My Miele W4802 is being diagnosed tomorrow, but this is the 3rd repair in 8 years. It may be time to replace it. I'm leaning towards a new Miele either a W1 or W1753 (to get 240v and proper 95 degree heat), Bosch or Gorenje. Any insights would be much appreciated.
