Backsplash around tub

We are remodeling our master bath and we are using granite around the tub. The backsplash around the tub has been installed but we all (contractors and us) think it looks too high/busy. Any advice on how tall to make it? It is currently 15". We were thinking 9". Does anyone think that is still too high? Thank you!!

My vote is to reduce it by half or take it all the way up to meet the vanity.

I agree it looks a little off to me too, but I don't think we can do anything about that. We haven't painted yet. We are painting the bathroom comfort gray 50%.

that's a nice shade. I think the surround looks fine. maybe you do so some glass shelving or something over that area? or art?

however, that one end piece going the wrong way would drive me crazy. no way I'd settle for that.

I think it looks great too and would not reduce the height - it reads more luxurious the way it is HOWEVER - the running of the slab at the foot of the tub was a BIG mistake.

Go back to your supplier and show them the photo you posted. Ask them for solutions. Do not settle!

This is another example of why homeowners must be involved in planning ahead, personally approving the plans and supervising contractors on installation day. Not tall enough or too tall, grain pattern going the wrong way.....a combination of poor planning and an incompetent fabricator.

Felizlady...We have been very involved and I did approve the height, but once it was installed felt like it was too high. We were at work when it was installed (so we could afford the remodel). We have been extremely happy with our contractor and supplier. Just asking people's opinion on the height. The way the granite is running does not really bother me. It is going vertically on two sides and horizontally in the middle...looks intentional when looking at the whole thing. It may look better if they were all running the same direction but doesn't really bother me. Thanks!

I'd remove the back splash from the vanity and make the rest go up to meet the bottom of your vanity top.

I think it's a case of walking in and that's all you see right now. It will be beautiful with your paint color, some mirrors, towels, etc.

What is the worst of this is the gap between tub side and top of vanity. I wonder if you could sheetrock that level with the stone and faux paint it to match stone? If the have more stone I would get that made full up to under vanity countertop.

The tub backsplash does seem too high and the height also creates an odd blank stripe between the backsplash and the counter.

I agree with Flo! I would not be able to live with the gap between vanity and backsplash. That would make me crazy! Is that brown fantasy stone? If it is please take the extra step of getting a stronger special sealer for it. It etches and stains easily. But very beautiful and I love it.

So I guess this particular color stone if it in fact is brown fantasy. I have been told there are 2 versions, not sure how true it is!? but I guess there is this color in quartzite, and a marble. When I bought it I thought it was quartzite. Within the first week of using new bath we got this stain mark, I will attach a picture, its the darker green spot. After I sealed it a couple of times with a very expensive special sealer I have not gotten any other stain spots. It was worth it, because my wife and I love the color of the stone. We were very upset when it got damaged so quickly. I hope it does not happen to you guys.

Creative Remodeling Design, it is fantasy brown. It is so beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice!! I will look into getting it sealed. Thanks for the advice!

lots of answers already, but I'd say that it won't look too tall once the tub is in there and the faucet and all the rest. will look luxurious. nice stone!

Thank you all for your thoughts and advice! I will post pictures of the space when it is finished.

Looks fine. Both the height and the way the surround looks.

Get it sealed and watch it, because it will etch very easily. Cleaning products such as plastic containers with sprays that might drip down sides can leave marks on this stone sometimes even eating through the sealers, so you have to train everyone who might be cleaning this room or using it on the proper care and use.

It should meet the vanity counter at the tub end, and should be raised to carry on the vanity lip line. Otherwise, it's all too choppy.

I like the height as is. Love your stone selection!
