Just to give him a tickle, ask hubby why he chose blue for the frame? In his defense, he may be color blind? LOL. Or a more subtle approach…cowboys don’t do baby blue…only kidding and commiserating.

“Meanwhile, back at the ranch”… there are pieces you can keep, for sure. Wood chairs (black is good) and table…good…end chair, nope.

Put the cowboy over the side board…find another place in another room for mirror,etc.

Lower your chandelier…about 34” over table top.

This fabric is available at regaldrapes.com. and would tie everything together. Do a black rod…speaks to black chairs.

You love Hubby and he loves this painting. Take the painting to a "fine art" framer for a new frame AND proper matting. Take your pillow along. Take these photos AND all wall measurements. Let the expert be your guide. Expect to pay in the $350 range. It's gonna be alright.

I am cracking up over that picture. My husband would choose something similar. I'd find another great spot for that cowboy picture, like on his side of the walk in closet or a basement bathroom. Good luck.

bless his heart. take a small paintbrush and General Finishes Milk Paint in Lampblack, and paint over the blue. give it a few coats. when dry, do a fine sanding on the edges so the blue peeks through. it will look nice (r).

More possibilities -- the mirror and that painting will never play nicely. I would put up visual non-aggressive competition. Tricky to find something that would work, but I like this Monet because it's a boy subject (train station) in a style a woman can appreciate. Frame in similar style. Secondly, give up on pink in this room, concentrate on the greys and blues. Thirdly, yes, dark wall for the cowboy. No baby blue. Other suggestions below. I think the horse head would be a nice peace gesture to tie the train station with the hoss.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions! My hubby purposely chose the blue frame because he actually likes it and he wanted to bring out the blue in the cowboys pants. LOL. Pretty much NOTHING else in my house is blue...but I've tried to bring some blue into certain things to help with this problem. I was thinking about replacing my table with a farmhouse style table....and try to move my house into a mix of the dark Mediterranean style (that it already is) and add in farmhouse style that is so popular that I love. With that in mind...I would still love any suggestions you all might have. The horse head idea is great!. Dropping the chandelier is a must...I actually wouldn't mind just replacing it. I moved the picture over the sideboard, but the size of the picture is almost the exact same width as the sideboard, so it looks bad. Any other suggestions and ideas would be amazing.

I don't think hubby's painting is horrible at all. I actually like it better than your mirror/candles that are over the sideboard. He's adding a bit of surprise in a predictable scheme. I really like Rina's Monet train painting to go there in place of your mirror--it seems perfect! I don't think it needs sconces.

I think a new chandelier will help your room a lot. Perhaps something simple and farm/rustic-but-artsy in pale blue glass? Maybe not this exact one (it's aqua), but to give you a picture:

If hubby chose a blue frame to bring out the cowboy's blue pants- it actually works against them and the feel of the painting. Another colour from the picture such as the medium charcoal gray would have the 'weight' to balance the scene, plus enhance its rustic nature (basically the colour of weathered wood). Also there are Mediterranean cowboys right? - maybe in Spain - look for colours that can be used to tie together elements - like touches of black scrolled metal (candle holder or sconces, framed plaques) Not too many - just to add focal points that tie together the ambience. Good luck.

Too funny. I'm so glad my husband doesn't really care to add his taste to the space. He will, however, give me his opinion as to whether or not he likes something and I do listen. So bless your heart for "accommodating the painting"! :)

Somehow I missed Rina's suggestions- they're great. I see she pictured a focal wall for the picture, I suggest the same on the sideboard wall. Plus as suggested - move the panels out from the mirror (elements need a little breathing space to complement rather than fight)

I typically try and stick with comments on kitchens and baths however, I couldn't pass this one up. I would move that painting "yesterday" into his man cave and if he doesn't have a man cave, that should be on his list of things to do immediately.

Not trying to offend you, but IMO that panting just not fit within your style or colors.

The painting needs to be framed in a darker color ( easily a DIY job). I agree with mrykbee, it's rather unexpected in a good way, more interesting than most of the "art" sold in stores everywhere. Personally it's not my style but I think it' could work if the rest of the decor is tweaked. Rina had some good suggestions. I like a little "unexpected " in a house as long as it fits in.
