What paint did you use? Primed first? Spray paint?

The paint work was done by Emma Castner of Castner Coatings here in Austin. She's amazingly knowledgeable about paint. emmaruth@castnercoatings.com

When you have the cabinets painted, do they also paint the inside of the cabinets?
Do they paint them in place ? With spray or brush?
I have similar cabinets and miss my former white kitchen!

Just the doors (inside and out), drawer fronts, and cabinet face frames were painted. First they were sanded down thoroughly and the existing hardware holes were filled so we could put new hardware on. Then they were sprayed with 2 coats. Looks fresh, doesn't it? Total cost for the refinishing was around $5000.

The before and after are kind of two different tastes I suppose, I like the before better except I love the afters back splash. To each their own however.

Love the new light fixtures, did you keep the same counter tops?

  • PRO

Yup, we kept the countertops, since they were in great shape and were able to make the transition from late-90's kitchen styling to the 2017 refresh.

Total cost of the refresh was $5000 or just painting the cabinets?

@loujebb That was just the cost for the cabinet refinishing. It took about 9 days of labor.

The warmth and elegance of the old kitchen was unmatched. Should have just changed the wall color and backsplash. Now its so plain, boring, and cheap looking.

Hmmmm. Sorry it disturbed you so. The client is thrilled, which is all that matters.

I love this transformation!!!!!! Love the colors! I am getting a new kitchen as well with new light fixtures! And I love that new backsplash! I too have not had an extra budget just change the flooring I bet they will in the future as well! To really mesh with the neutrals.

Oh, how I wish we had the budget to continue the wood flooring from the rest of the house into this kitchen. The orange faux stone tile is such a bummer. Oh well, could be worse!

@murphy yeah I'm struggling with the same thing luckily my tile isn't too much on the orange side.
But I've used my flooring budget on adding recessed lighting throughout my house lol raising a kitchen soffit and converting a coat closet into a pantry.
Otherwise I would definitely love wood floors throughout my house.

New backsplash is the best part. Liked the old warmth and cohesive colors. The new splash that would have matched the existing kitchen would have sufficed.
