It's a beautiful color and looks very well with your upholstery. Rug is definitely waay too small. You want something that will go under the front feet of the sofa AT A MINIMUM and under the whole sofa and table at best. The rug can be a very unifiying element. Depending on your budget a large neutral rug (like a sisal or something natural) with your white rug on top would be nice. A console table or server behind the couch with a large piece of art (with complementary colors) or a mirror above. Or a row of bookcases that you can stage? I would also move the "L" of the couch to the other side so the room is more welcoming when you walk in and you don't have to move around the sofa to sit. Switch the chair to the other side where the torchere is then. Very pretty room and love all the light, You're almost there!

Can you move the sofa away from the opening hole wall so it floats then pull in your chair/chairs / closer to the sofa and fireplace so they relate to the sofa.

Add some black teal and grey and white pillows and art work that can work on either side of fireplace or either side of opening.

It's a great room.... not a lot to do. Keep it simple without a lot of nic nacs... it's very pretty!

A pretty mirrored or chrome tray on the coffee table with some decor and it's great!

You want the window free it would appear. If you put the back of the sofa to the windows then the chairs can be closer to the opening, yet not block the flow of traffic. A sofa table behind would give you a place for lamps, decor or a larger book shelf of some sort would also give you a place express your personalities. Is there an outside door next to the windows you are avoiding, making a foyer of sorts behind the sofa? More pictures might help.

Just by looking at the photo (hard to tell the, "odd shape" I'd push the couch back toward the wall in the background of photo 2. Not a lot, but enough so you can move it toward the windows a little bit more so as not to crowd the fireplace. I know you probably want it centered in front of the fireplace, but it may look less crowded in the space in front of the couch. Given the mass of it not being exactly centered is not an issue.

As another suggested you could try the long portion on the opposite side, but I fear it will look odd obstructing the windows?? Worth a try is all may open up the space, my not.

All in all, if possible try to open up the space between the fireplace and the couch a little so it's a tiny bit more roomy trying pushing it back even if a little is all you can and then the whole sectional down toward the windows a bit.

My immediate thought is that the room is very pretty but I don't care for the white pillows with the off light color of the fireplace. I feel a light color should go with. I also feel the side chair should be a bit more sophisticated and a better scale with a bit more height. The rug has already been mentioned above. I would decide on accent colors after you choose the much needed art work. You may even wait till after art purchase before buying a new rug. Take your time and pick art you love.

Goldy yellows, spring greens, or aqua, used as accents, could liven up your room.

We definitely could use some artwork. But I thought we should do the rug first? Are we better off with a neutral rug and add pops of colors with art and decorations? I moved the couch to try and create space, I think this opens the room up more. Our walls are a grayish/purple with a deep purple accent. Would all the greens/blues/gold hues work or should I do something more dramatic. I appreciate all the ideas/feedback!

I actually looked at the top rug you just posted. I didn't want to do too much purple and force the color. I wasn't sure how much color to do! I wasn't sure how to balance it and pull it all together! I do like both of those rugs though!

I would choose a neutral rug, something like you already have, and introduce color with pillows, throws and wall art. I'm thinking soft yellow pillows in velvet, and some yellow/gray patterned pillows for a start. Some large abstract canvases with yellow, terracotta and green in them would be a nice complement. I'm having a hard time seeing a very colorful rug with your serene palette.

i have seen both used with great success, but itis up to you. happy to work with whatever you like. second is pretty much the lightest combo.

I like the room....and your colors....I think you need art work that repeats the colors in your accent chair, and since the entry wall is so long possibly a set or trio of larger prints or possibly a tryptich of three prints? The add either more blue or more yellow pillows and possibly some peacock feather, very full, in the vase on the hearth. Because you have grey on the walls and the sofa is in the same color expanse contrast with yellow and turquoise and black will brings some energy to the room.....
