Scalped lawn

I scalped my lawn kind of bad today. A didn't know what to do so I fertilized it with a high nitrogen water mixture lawn food. Then watered it for awhile. I have just ruined my yard? It's Bermuda by the way.

So the nitrogen is it going to hurt the grass and thank you

Not at all. It might hurt your feet from all the mowing you will be doing :-)

And that is up hill too. This is my first new house and new lawn. It was super green and think. I raised my wheels but forgot the back was different that the front by the time I realized I had to just go with it

Bermuda should be cut low anyway. Maybe reeljake will stop by and give you some pointers on best practices, I have a cool season grass. I think he scalps yearly in the spring. Where are you located?

    Atlanta

I'm in upstate SC, 2 hours from Atlanta. I scalp with my trucut reel mower twice a year and top dress with sand/compost mix each time.

I can tell you from experience watching my neighbor drop the deck to much to fast last year. It looked just like your pictures and the only bad thing is that you may have to deal with that lawn for the remainder of this year.

Next spring scalp it down to 1" (lower if you have a reel mower) in the spring and it will come back thicker and stronger than ever.

I just scalped and top dressed last Friday. Here's what it looked like right after I scalped it to 1/2"

No worries, it will come back in a week or so

Do you have closer pics of the grass, if you cut away the bulk of the green leaf tissue then it won't come back this year.

It without a doubt will come back but from my experience, the grass behaves differently when you scalp it in the spring when it is just coming out of dormancy vs scalping it now. I cut my lawn with my rotary about a month ago to try to maintain the current height. Because the grass had grown so much, certain parts of it were brown after I cut it. Fast forward to now and some of those brown areas haven't fully recovered. I know they will but they haven't. I would be surprised if your entire lawn fully recovered before it starts going dormant.
