Your new plantings look great, stone mulch and all! Actually I don't mind those smooth, darkish round rocks. I have a friend that bought a house with regular white gravel, what an eyesore that is and a pain to remove, it's at least 6" deep around three sides of her home, ugh.

I'm open to critique, but the design of this area is somewhat limited by the constraints of the HOA.

siting is fine ....

its just that to my eye .. you have two white centered plants next to each other.. they fight for my attention ... and the other is just the photo opposite .. [and im not sure.. but that might be the shrub ...]

some might say ... its not relaxing to the eye ...

regardless ... job well done.. and if your happy ... and proud.. as apparently you are since you posted pix.. all the power to ya. ... job well done ...

btw: trying taking the pix in the evening ... the lesser intensity of the light.. usually helps with photos ... e.g... if your out there at noon ... you find yourself squinting ... then the camera washes out .. but just as bright in the evening.. your not squinting ... and the camera takes a better pic ... less contrast issues ... i can gauge it all.. with my glasses .. as they darken slightly ... at noon ... but not in the evening ....

ps: boy you like moving rock and cement.. lol ...

Thanks, Ken. I will definitely consider your suggestion about the too similar variegation. Partially that is due to buying what was available at the time and what I liked. But I'm open to ideas. Do you have a suggestion for a different hosta you think would look good in one of their places?

Yes, the other variegated plant is a shrub. It's some sort of dogwood shrub that I do like.

just some random ideas for you to contemplate .... its all to your personal choice.. whith what you want to do .. or can do ...

i dont see any yellow in that bed ... i leave suggestions to others .....

nor do i see a blue ... deep blue sea is a really cool pebbled one ...

also.. i dont have a scale for the whole bed ... but it seems to be all of similar height ... what about a trellis again the wall.. and a clematis or some such ....

perhaps another pic or 2.. will spur other comments. ....

Thanks, Ken. Believe it or not, I don't like moving rock at all. The front yards in my neighborhood were all installed by the HOA and came with this rock. If I had my druthers, it would all be gone. But the HOA has a sort of "requirement" that this rock be here. Their plant choices were horrid. Over the years, I've just been slowly replacing them hoping they wouldn't notice. You're right, I don't have any yellow in this area. On the left side of the tree, I do have two Stained Glass hostas. I could probably re-arrange those and trade out one of the variegated ones for one of those. Originally, my plan for this area was to be variegated and red. But I am not able to really grow many red flowers in this area other than a huge rose that you can't really see in the picture. I like the idea of a blue hosta in here somewhere and will try to find Deep Blue Sea.

Ken, I was actually looking at Blue Hawaii. I like it's sort of "upright" form. I will force myself to order some (haha) and move others around. Thanks to you and lindalana for suggestions.

Ken, I bought Blue Hawaii. I got it in the mail last night. Which one of the current hostas do you think I should replace? I was thinking Loyalist, the one that is circled here. Because it is going to get tall, I thought that would be a good location for it. I'll move Loyalist elsewhere.
